Parents and Friends Association

Meeting 23rd July
At the most recent Parents and Friends Association meeting a number of announcements were made and issues discussed. We would like to thank those that attended and contributed their thoughts and ideas on a wild and woolly evening.
Announcements
- The College is excited to welcome Minx Architecture as partners in upcoming works and developments. A new Masterplan is being developed and we are looking for parent representatives to be a part of the consultation process.
- The COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) is to be named Margaret Dennett Courts. Margaret Dennett was the second principal of CRC Sydenham and will be recognised for her service to the school and community. The new Archbishop, the Most Reverend Peter A Comensoli has been invited to bless the Margaret Dennett Courts.
- Fifteen Queen’s scouts have been recognised for 2018, including Lachlan Ross, son of Bryan Ross, longstanding member of the Parents and Friends Association.
- The inaugural Salt and Light Program was launched recently. The Salt and Light program is by invitation to selected Year 10 students coming into Year 11 for 2019. This acceleration program is designed to challenge and support these talented academics and help them to be the Salt of the Earth and the Light to the World, aspiring to be their best.
- The PAFA is seeking volunteers to run fundraising dinners in Quatrefoils Restaurant themed around the National Country days that represent our College community. Theses dinners would be on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, closest to the National Day for that country. The funds raised would go towards the PAFA to help develop further projects and to our Timor L’Este social justice work. Photographs of the students we sponsor in Timor L’Este were shown as part of the meeting presentation.
- The first of these would be in celebration of Maltese Independence Day, 21st September. Volunteers to manage this are needed and suggestions as to how to promote this with the College Community are welcomed.
- Other Projects being considered by the PAFA are fundraising for LCD screens and tiered spectator seating for the Margaret Dennett Courts.
Discussions
At the last PAFA meeting the question was raised as to the possibility of the Providence Newsletter being in a format that could be downloaded. Several attendees supported this question saying that they would prefer this as they could print off important announcements and calendar events and place them on the fridge as a reminder. Our current contract with the publishing company is due to be renewed later this year and until that time we will be asking the publishers to deliver on their original promise that a downloaded version was in development. In the meantime, we will look at other providers to compare our best options for when the contract is renewed.
If you would like to join the Parents and Friends Association or would like more information, please email info@crcsydenham.net We are especially looking for volunteers to help with the Maltese Independence Day Dinner.
