VCAL Update

VCAL Timor Leste Project Semester 1

During semester 1 Senior VCAL students planned and organized a number of fundraising activities to help raise money for the Timor Leste Project. Students ran a number of activities, these included an Easter Raffle, car wash, BBQ’s and selling Hot Chips. All these activities were planned and actioned by the students.

As a senior VCAL student it was essential that we understood the aim of the project and what we were fundraising for. Brendan spoke to us about the trip to Timor Leste later this year; the aim is to build bedding for the students who do not have a roof over their head whilst attending school. In Timor Leste some students walk 8 hours to get to school and then sleep under a tree during the week in the elements. Knowing that we could raise money to help these students, by providing a roof over their head, drove us to want to run as many fundraising activities as we could.

While completing our projects we developed skills in communicating, networking, planning, time management, budgeting, social diversity and of course the ability to meet deadlines. We cant wait to see how the Timor Leste project finishes up, knowing that we have supported such an amazing cause means that we have really developed as VCAL students at the College.
