Graduation Night

On Thursday, 29th November, Year 12 students, their families and teachers, gathered at the Learning and Teaching building at Monash University to begin the Graduation celebration over an array of finger food and tea/coffee. Entertainment included a couple of short films put together by the Year 12 students, highlighting key events of their final year at Westall.

Following the light meal, students and guests moved into the main area for the formal part of the program, which was opened by the Percussion Group, who raised the roof with their sensational performance of ‘Jensa’, an African rhythm arranged by Mr Michael Coco. The opening speech was from our Principal, Mr Lanarus, and our guest speaker for the occasion was former Westall student, School Captain and Dux of the Class of 2016, Leelee Chea. She spoke about her time in education, the opportunities that came her way, which opened doors to amazing prospects, leading her to currently being involved in the multi-billion dollar Metro Tunnel Project.

School Captains, Sally Maele and Angie Koeng, were excellent MCs and kept the evening moving along smoothly. The following students were presented Overall Personal Best and Overall Academic Excellence awards at each year level. These students are to be congratulated for consistent effort and performance throughout the year!

The Special Awards section acknowledged a number of students who have made a significant impact, through one or more of, community spirit, leadership, citizenship, sport, high academic performance.

The 2019 College Captains were acknowledged for their great work this year, and the 2020 Captains were announced. Congratulations to the following students and we look forward to your leadership and contribution to the college!

The final part of the evening included a presentation by Mr Lanarus to each of the Graduating Class of 2019 and a closing speech by Ms Gatsios. The thoroughly enjoyable evening truly showcased our students’ talents across the school in the areas of music, sport, co-curricular and academic excellence!

Whole School Awards Assembly

Our annual Awards Assembly was held in the college gymnasium on Thursday, 21st November. Nearly 200 students across the college, were recognised and applauded for their achievements in the areas of sport and leadership, applied learning, as well as excellence in the academic field. We were delighted to have a number of parents and families attend the assembly to support their children. Congratulations to all award recipients, who should be very proud of their accomplishments this year! The 2019 School Captains were fantastic in their conduction of the entire assembly!
