Year 7 - State Volleyball Winners!

On November 15th, I and seven other girls participated in the School Sport Victoria State Volleyball Final, held in the Dandenong Basketball Stadium. To get to this point. we had won both the Kingston division competion and the Southern Metro Region finals. On the day, we were put into a pool against three other schools. We won each of our games and were then put into the semi-finals against Maribyrnong College. It was a tough game and we were taken to a third (deciding) set. It was a close game and we almost lost, but we came through and beat them. Our finals game was against Kew High School where we managed to beat them two sets to zero, it was a tough match in the second set but our coach, Mr Johnstone and assistant coach, Maje Palalagi-Sundar’s encouragement meant we rose to the challenge when we were feeling down. It was an amazing experience and we hope we make it back to state again next year. This whole year, the Year 7 Volleyball Girls team have been undefeated, winning 21 games, including the Victorian Schools Cup tournament. Lastly, I would just like to thank the Year 7 volleyball girls for an amazing year and good luck for next year and the years coming.

Year 7

2019 Volleyball Victoria Junior Open Tournament

Congratulations to the U19G for winning gold at the 2019 Volleyball Victoria Junior Open in Division 2.

Firstly, I would like to thank Toroa & Noo Papatua for taking their time out to coach the girls leading into this tournament. They also took the three days off work to come into MSAC, and volunteered their time to coach the girls, prepare food and feed all the kids, referee our duty games, and really supported the girls to win their gold medal. We can never thankyou both enough for helping create these memories for the girls, and especially for the Westall Community. To the girls that were a part of the team, Tapeta Mautairi, Gloria Mautairi, Jenicor Papatua, Rachel Carnahan, Lily Nooroa, Lizzy Luamanu, Soanna Carnahan, Wati Yakapo and Jasline Manico, congratulations to you all, you played hard, listened to your coaches and never gave up. I was honoured to be able to escort these girls out to MSAC for the 3-day tournament, in which they only lost 3 sets over the 3 days. Once again congratulations!

2019 Volleyball Victoria Junior Open Tournament

The 3-day Volleyball tournament was the best experience ever. We got the chance to play some schools from interstate and at times we doubted ourselves. Before every game we always had a talk and our coach would tell us that is was up to us girls to play hard and work together to win, and as games went by, we all improved and started to play really well. We came into this tournament thinking we wouldn't make it far, but all the hard work paid off and got us to Grand Finals, playing for Gold. We were very nervous because the team we played, had beaten us in our first match of the tournament. I went into the final game thinking we were getting silver until the first set had finished and we had won it, and from then I believed we could definitely do it. The other school had heaps of supporters on the side and all I was thinking in my head was, 'we can do it, and to make the teachers, parents and supporters watching, proud. That time had come where we had won the game and I was over the moon. I couldn't believe that my last few days of representing Westall has been such a big success.
