Middle School Report

Message from the Director of Learning

- Mr. Tom Tahos

Well done to all Middle School students for successfully completing this year. We wish our Year 10 students the very best as they transition to Senior School to complete their final two years of secondary school education.

A warm welcome to Year 8 students and to all the new students joining us in Middle School.  We are a very caring sub-school community that focuses on ‘what matters most’, you and your learning.

We all have a special role to play and we are all responsible for doing everything we can that will lead to you in achieving improved learning outcomes.

Our goal is to prepare you for multiple pathways beyond Year 10, including the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), and Vocational Education and Training (VET), SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship Training) and for Employment.

I would like to thank our Middle School Coordinators, Ms Lee Read and Mr Charles Tran, for their hard work in supporting students during the year. I would like to welcome Ms Helen Ifandis into the Year 9 coordinator role for 2020; Ms Read will follow her students next year, as their Year 10 Coordinator.

Please take the time over the holidays to prepare for your return to school by organising textbooks and uniform. On behalf of the Middle School team, we wish you a safe and enjoyable break!

Beacon - Work Readiness Workshops

All Year 10 students have had the opportunity to participate in the Work Readiness - High Impact Program.  This workshop provides students with invaluable experiences in developing their knowledge and skills in getting ready for work.  Students went through topics like: first impressions, conversation starters, interviewing, employability; skills such as talking about their strengths and weaknesses, and finally, networking skills.

All of these skills were practised over lunch when students met with mentors from the company.

Students were amazing and demonstrated a very good understanding of all the topics covered.

On the last day, students enjoyed a chance at making mini plum puddings, out of rice bubbles, to celebrate the festive season.
