UNIFORM

Taking pride in our school

A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their school.  Issues of equality, health and safety, and expense are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the Dress Code.

AIMS

  1. To promote equality amongst all students
  2. To further develop a sense of pride in, and identification with, our school
  3. To provide durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment
  4. To maintain and enhance the positive image of the school in the community.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • After consultation with the Sacred Heart School Advisory Board and the Leadership Team, a Dress Code has been developed that allows for students to safely engage in all school activities, and caters for the financial constraints of families.
  • The Dress Code applies during school hours, while travelling to and from school, and when students are on school excursions.
  • Summer and winter uniforms, as well as a sports uniform will be prescribed, and are required to be worn.
  • Stud earrings and sleepers worn in the ears, plus watches are the only acceptable jewellery.  Chains are not part of the school uniform and if for religious reasons they are required to be worn they need to be worn under the school uniform and a note provided to the Principal.
  • Extreme hair colours (e.g: green, pink or purple rinses) and/or extreme hairstyles (e.g: spikes or Mohawks) are not permitted.
  • Other than clear nail polish, cosmetics may not be worn at school.  Untinted, labelled lip balm may be used if required and no child will be permitted to share their lip balm.
  • The only head wear that is acceptable is SunSmart hats as provided by the school Uniform Shop and is consistent with our SunSmart policy.  These must be worn outside in Terms 1 and 4 or as prescribed by the Principal.  Hats are not worn inside.
  • The student Dress Code, including details of uniform items and places of purchase, will be published in the School Newsletter at the end and beginning of each year.
  • Parents, the Principal and Staff are asked to be responsible for implementation of the Dress Code in a manner consistent with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Shoulder length hair is required to be tied back at all times.  Hair wear (scrunchies, hair ties, head bands) need to be blue in colour and safe for your child.  (Hard plastic clips are not recommended).
  • An Out of School Uniform email will be sent home to parents for students not wearing the correct uniform.  If this persists the Principal will contact the parents.
