PARENT INVOLVEMENT

We can't do it without you!

The school community consists of Parish Priest, parents, teachers and students.

As parents, you have a special place in the community. Children learn from both parents and teachers, but it is parents who have the long term responsibility for their children’s welfare.  Research shows very clearly that children benefit if parents and teachers are able to work in partnership and if they see their parents involved in the life of the school.

Please note:  it is a mandatory requirement that all parent supervisors assisting with excursions, classroom work or coaching, have a current Working with Children Check. Applications can be obtained online.

You can be involved with the School Community through the following groups/events:

  • Sacred Heart School Advisory Council whose role is to support the Principal in the provision of Catholic education in the school community.  Board members are elected bi-annually.
  • Sacred Heart Parents and Friends Association, a fundraising organisation which generally meets twice a term.
  • Functions such as Cake Stalls, Sausage Sizzles and raffles are held at various times throughout the year.  All money raised at these functions is used to purchase items for the school, e.g. computer equipment, furniture, reading and maths materials or to assist with playground improvements and the building program, e.g. shade structures.
  • The P&F Association also organises regular working bees and other activities such as Mother’s Day stall and breakfast and a Father’s Day stall and breakfast.
  • Sub-committees are formed as necessary to advise/assist with Orientation, Book Week, Building Program, etc.
  • Assistance is often required with the supervision of children on excursions.  However, a current Working with Children Check is mandatory for all parent supervisors.
  • Classroom help is always needed with the Literacy block.  Parent volunteers are required to complete a training program conducted early in the school year.
  • Coaches are essential for football, netball and basketball, and these all rely upon parental assistance.
  • Parent involvement in the preparations for our school musical production is most welcome.  Assistance in making props, costumes and sets is greatly appreciated.
