Footloose The Musical: Update!

The DSC Performing Arts team is very excited to begin work on the 2020 musical production of ‘Footloose’.

Auditions were held last year for students in years 8-12 and we were overwhelmed by the talent and ability of our students.

We are in the process of finalising the cast now as we add even more members to the ensemble from our 2020 Year 7 cohort.

The first read-through of the script took place this week with the 12 students who form the principal cast. Rehearsals for the rest of the cast will begin in the coming weeks.

Keep your eye on this space for more news, photos and stories from the rehearsal process and clear your calendars for August 12, 13 and 14 when the show will hit the DSC Performance Centre in Term 3!

VCAL Student Dances in Local

CATS the Musical Production

Congratulations to VCAL student Jamil V (12V) who performed in the Stage School Australia production of CATS the Musical last month. Jamil is undertaking a Certificate II in Dance at Swinburne Senior Secondary College.

Reflection by Jamil

After having the opportunity to audition for CATS the Musical in September last year, I was fortunate enough to perform in the January school holidays.

I have been training in musical theatre for the past 10 years and this has definitely been my highlight as a performer. It allowed me to use my knowledge of singing, dancing and acting all combined!

My favourite part of the show would be The Jellicle Ball which was a 10-minute non-stop dance in the middle of the show. It was an honour to perform in this timeless masterpiece by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

After the show season I have become a better dancer and hope to use my skills when performing in this year's school production of Footloose the Musical,  where I have been cast as the leading role of Ren McCormack.

Well done Jamil!
