COOKING FOR THE HOMELESS

Last Thursday after school a group of 17 students from Young Vinnies met in the Food Rooms, where we cooked for the homeless. We made Butter Chicken Curry and Chilli Con Carne. There was a label on each container stating, “Made with Love for You by Sacred Heart College Students”. We made around 80 containers of food for the homeless, which were collected on Friday morning by volunteers from

  • Grace Café Drop-in Centre in Joondalup; and
  • Shopfront Outreach Centre in Bentley

Thank you to McLoughlin Butchers in Malaga who donated the meat and to Mrs Hywood and the Home Economics staff, especially Mrs Van Eyck for the preparation and organisation of the cooking afternoons this year.

We always get feedback from the organisations about how grateful they are for these “school -made” meals.  All the Young Vinnies students who attend the cooking find it rewarding and it’s great to see a mix of students from all year groups willing to donate their time to provide a meal for those in need.   Students can attend Young Vinnies Meetings on Mondays at the start of lunch in the RNDM Foyer and find about how they can help in any of the upcoming activities.
