Alumni at Koonung

Alumni program

On Wednesday 13 July, two of Koonung’s Year 11 Physical Education classes, run by Mr Kofoed and Mr Dunn, had the pleasure of welcoming alumna Lucy Zarafa (Year Group 2018) to the College to talk to students about her pathway since completing Year 12.

Lucy had always wanted to work in elite sports. She didn’t initially get into the course she had hoped for but after commencing study, was able to transfer into Deakin University’s renowned Bachelor of Business – Sport Management course and achieve her dream, through volunteering and networking; working for the Collingwood Football Club.

She gave the students great encouragement that there are pathways to fantastic career opportunities that don’t necessarily involve University and that, once you are studying, you can always transfer into your preferred course.

One interesting pathway Lucy shared with the students was that Collingwood Football Club offers a one year Sport and Business Program (https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/seda-sport-and-business...) designed to give students the opportunity to study in a practical, hands-on learning environment, and gain real experience in the sports industry working alongside Collingwood.

The one year, dual-diploma program delivered and assessed by SEDA Group (SEDA) develops skills and knowledge across a variety of areas including sponsorship, project and event management, talent identification, social media and marketing. Enrolled students connect and learn from sports industry experts, coaches and elite athletes. They also gain insight into the business elements involved in a large elite sporting organisation.

There are also traineeships that are run by the AFL that students may be interested in https://aflsportsready.com.au/. Definitely something to consider!

Thank you for inspiring our students Lucy and for making the time to return to the College.

Feed back from Caroline Milburn,  CEO and Co-founder of Ourschool:

I’m delighted to provide your school’s Semester 1 infographic (see left).  It shows some milestones achieved by your alumni program in Semester 1 this year.

This is part of Ourschool’s service to your school. We appreciate that Alumni Program Coordinators have extremely limited time to do their jobs.

Therefore, we’ve created this infographic for you to share in your communications with your school and alumni community.

We compiled the infographic from the basic data we ask Alumni Program Coordinators to send us at the end of each semester.

Gathering this data not only enables Ourschool to create an overview infographic for your school, it also allows us to aggregate the data from all partner schools to report overall evidence of impact to Ourschool’s funders.
