Library News

The colder weather has brought more and more students at recess and lunchtime into the warmth and sanctuary of our library.

Over the past few weeks, library users have enjoyed participating in the regular Kahoot! competitions run in the main library. Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that allows the library staff to create and play fun learning games on all topics.

So far this term, students have enjoyed Kahoot! games on the following topics: ANZAC Day, Harry Potter and to celebrate IDAHOBIT Day.  We are looking forward to the upcoming Marvel Comics Kahoot and the Library Bingo activity in a few weeks.

The library has also been busy during class time with the teacher-librarians running research skills sessions with all Year 8 students in conjunction with their Humanities studies.  The teacher-librarians ran targeted information literacy classes aimed at helping students to become better at researching information. All Year 8 students were taught how to recognise trustworthy websites, to use helpful tips to find relevant websites and how to locate reputable information through alternatives to using Google.

In addition, as part of the library program, all Year 7 and 8 students in their English classes have been working towards successfully completing the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC).  The VPRC encourages students in Year 7 to 10 to read at least 15 books over the year and to record their efforts online. Our school is a proud VPRC school, and we actively encourage all Year 7 and Year 8 students to participate in the challenge. Please contact the library if you would like more information on the VPRC.
