Super result - Hope H - State Cross Country

What a super runner we have at this school!

We’d like to congratulate Hope H (3C) who represented herself and our school at the SSV State Cross Country championships last Thursday at the Yarra Valley Race course. Hope ran in the 9/10 Girls 2km race, coming a very impressive 24th out of 92 competitors!  This is a fantastic achievement, considering Hope is only turning 9 this year and still has another year within this age group next year!  Conditions were not ideal, with wet, thick, muddy race-course grass as the terrain.

Many thanks to Hope’s parents for taking her to and from the event.  On behalf of everyone at St. Finbar’s we congratulate Hope for this brilliant achievement!

Year 3&4 Hoop Time

Our five Year 3&4 representative basketball teams have been preparing for their Junior HoopTime tournament by practising against other teams during some of their lunchtimes.

Many thanks to the many parents that have offered to support their child’s team as either a coach or scorer.  Mrs Thompson will email all helpers by Wednesday next week with final details for the day.  All parents and family members are also very welcome to come along to help support their child’s team.  We wish all teams all the very best for a fun day out at MSAC!

GREAT EFFORTS @ WINTER TEAM PLAY-OFFS

It’s been a big couple of sport-filled days for a number of our Year 5 & 6 boys with two Beachside Division Winter PlayOffs held this week!  On Wednesday Mr Berlingeri took our team of 15 boys to represent our school and Dendy District at the Mixed/Boys Soccer Winter PlayOffs at the Kingston Playing fields. The boys played some impressive soccer to come away winning both their round games, to then face St. James Brighton in the semi-final.  Unfortunately St. James was able to convert one extra goal than our team and came away beating us 2-1 in this semi.  Well done to all players on their great efforts and sportsmanship displayed over the day.

On Wednesday we then had our team of 9 boys and Coach Miss Kay head to Oakleigh Rec to play in the Mixed/Boys Netball Winter PlayOffs.  Playing five round games over the day, the team knew it was going to be a big day of game-play…  After winning their first four games, their final game ended up being against the only other non-defeated team; Christ Church Grammar.  Our boys started off well, scoring a few goals in the first few minutes, but CC Grammar were then able to step up a notch and got the upper hand on our team for the rest of the game.  Christ Church came away winning the day, with our team coming Runners Up - a super result! Congrats to all team members.

Many thanks goes to Mr Berlingeri and Miss Kay for their coaching efforts with these teams. A massive thank you also goes to George K, Neil S and Bec S for their very appreciative efforts as line-referees for our soccer team!
