Principal's Report

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an exciting week it has been this week with many activities on our calendar!  We began the week with an Emergency Management Fire Drill.  The scenario we practised was a complete evacuation of the school premises to the Parish Tennis Courts on St. Finbar's Crescent.  This is one of the more extreme scenarios that we would need to consider and the whole school community performed admirably.  It is very reassuring to know that we are well prepared in case of an emergency situation.  We will be conducting one more emergency management scenario next term.

Grandparents (and Special Friends) Day

Finally, we have been able to hold our annual Grandparents and special friends day.   We have been unable to offer this event for the past 2 years and it so good to have these very important visitors in our school.

Thanks to the P & F for the morning tea and well done to Mrs Williams and the school band for entertaining the guests with 3 songs that they have been rehearsing over the past 2 terms.  The feedback from Grandparents and special friends was incredible and much appreciated.

Prep 100 Days of School

On Monday next week we will be celebrating our Prep students' 100 days of school.  This is a very important milestone for our Prep students.  I will keep the community updated via social media on the activities for the day.

Beach-side District Inter-school Sports

My congratulations to our Boys Soccer and Netball teams who competed in the Beach-side District competitions this week.  Both teams performed very well with the Netball team finishing 2nd and the Soccer team finishing 3rd.  Amazing efforts!  All the boys represented our school community with pride, not only playing fair, but also with exemplary behaviour.

State Cross Country Championships

A massive congratulations to Hope H in Year 3 who recently competed in the Victorian State Cross Country Championships.  Hope finished 25th out of 92 competitors in the 9/10 year age group.  Just to put it in perspective how good she went....... Hope has another year in this age group as she is only 9 years of age this year!  What an amazing effort.

P & F Student DISCO

The P & F disco is on for tomorrow evening.  My sincere thanks to the Year 4 P & F parents for all of the organising that has gone on with this event.  It promises to be an exciting evening.  Please note that the adventure playground will be out of bounds all evening.  It will be parents responsibility to ensure the safety of their children whilst arriving at, and departing, the disco.  All children must be signed in and out at the door by an adult.

Elevator Project Update

We have seen a lot of progress with the elevator over the past few weeks.  The external cladding is now complete and the scaffolding will be coming down next week, and internally, the plaster work has begun.  More importantly, the elevator parts have arrived in Melbourne and will be delivered soon to the school ready for installation.

Alex Sugar, our artist who created the beautiful mural on the school building, is hard at work coming up with a new design for the elevator.  I cant wait to see what design he comes up with!

Recent Long Service Leave

My sincere thanks to Ms. Michelle Hill and Mr. Steele Anderson who were Acting Principals during my absence last week.  My thanks also to all staff for their support of Michelle and Steele as well.  I had an amazing time away with my family visiting Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon and Coober Pedy.   I had time to visit the underground church in Coober Pedy which was an interesting place to worship.

We truly live in a remarkable country!
