Primary School News
Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School
Dear Primary Families,
Over the past two days, I have enjoyed the opportunity to join with leaders from over 50 Marist schools and ministries and 19 dioceses across Australia or the Marist Schools Australia Biennial Conference. This gathering intentionally explored Marist spirituality and Marist educational practice with the goal of enlivening our mission of evangelisation through quality education.
As you know, this fortnight we have purposefully focused on the Marist characteristic of Family Spirit, and this gathering has certainly provided a great platform for that. The image below captures a very special moment on Sunday. Br Daniel Hollamby (MCA Primary Principal 1983-1988) pours sand into the hands of George Holland (5 Violet). Br Daniel taught George’s father, Brad, when he was a student in the primary school. The red sand was brought to Brisbane from Central Australia.
On Saturday, family spirit was again on full display as parents Mr Maddox, Mr McGahan, Mr Marshall and Mr Novak assisted me with taking a group of 15 boys to Goondiwindi for a rugby trip. The boys won a tough game against the local U12 team and enjoyed the opportunity to socialise with the boys after the game. The boys were fantastic ambassadors for the College and even took the opportunity to teach them the ‘ A Tiki’ and present them with a memento for the experience.
Formal Hat Returns
You would have received an e-mail this afternoon from Mr Bruce McPhee (Deputy Head of College) regarding the return of the formal hats. Due to the Ekka break and stocktake requirements as part of the transition to our new uniform shop supplier, please be aware of the following dates and times for formal hat returns.
We would ask that all hats be returned where possible by the close of business on Tuesday 9 August. Please note that students are able to return their hat to the shop without a parent present. If doing so, they need to provide the name and phone number of the parent who purchased the hat so Alinta's Head Office can process the refund.
Uniform Shop hours up until Tuesday next week:
Wednesday 3 August: 2.00pm - 5.30pm
Thursday 4 August: 2.30pm - 5.30pm
Friday 5 August: 7.30am - 12.30pm
Monday 8 August: 7.30am - 12.30pm
Tuesday 9 August: 7.30am - 10.00am (FINAL DAY OF RETURNS)
Book Week
My many thanks to Mrs Meaghan Round and Ms Robyn Brown for their efforts and for ensuring yet another successful Book Week last week. The highlight of the week was of course the Book Week Parade with most boys taking the opportunity to dress as their favourite book character on Friday morning. However, the show was stolen by the Primary Staff who went the extra mile to ensure the boys knew just how much they loved to dress up!
Environmental Green Free Dress Day – Friday
In keeping with the Friday ‘dress up’ theme, our Environmental Group will be holding a Green Free Dress Day on Friday of this week. The donation of $2 will be collected via student monitor accounts on the day.
District Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to Mr John Lambourne (Head of Sport – Primary) for coordinating a successful North-West District Track and Field Carnival last Wednesday and Thursday at the College. We hosted over 500 students a day from over 20 schools across the district. Our competitors also did a fantastic job over the two days and details of the results can be found in the Sports section below.
Year 5 2024 Interviews
This week myself and members of the Leadership Team will commence interviews for our Year 5 cohort of 2024. This is always an exciting process and, after having to conduct these interviews online last year, I look forward to welcoming both new and existing families into the College for these interviews.

Hunter’s side finished with 5 wins, 2 losses and a draw. The team finished at the top of their group but unfortunately lost in the finals against some tough competition.
