Alumni Speaker at 2022 Year 12 Graduation Night

At our Year 12 Graduation night in October we had the pleasure of one of our alumni address the graduating class as our guest speaker

Mitchell Wood graduated from the class of 2017 and was the former Banksia Campus captain. Mitch decided to pursue teaching at Deakin University where he completed his Bachelor of Health and Physical Education with a third method in Food Technology (Secondary). He chose to study Health and Physical Education teaching as he was influenced by many teachers when at school and enjoyed all types of sports and physical activities. He also loves helping others and taking on a leadership position, which is part of a teacher’s role within a school. Mitch is currently a graduate teacher back at Keysborough College.

An excerpt from Mitchells speech: " ...no matter where you end up next year – whether it be Uni, TAFE, starting your own business or jumping into full-time work, I want to encourage you to always be committed to learning.

I don’t mean ‘learning’ in a narrow sense – of simply being book smart or memorising facts and figures for the sake of it – because knowing a lot of things and doing nothing with that knowledge is pointless. Rather, what I hope you never lose is your sense of curiosity and your willingness to be open to learn from every situation.

Ask questions. Listen more. Improve your knowledge and understanding, solve problems in new ways, challenge yourself. Surround yourself with people who challenge the way you think and who lift your mindset. Make good choices and surround yourself with those you can continue to keep learning from.
