Write a Book in a Day
Students with a love of creative writing, a passion for illustrating and/or a desire to help other teenagers are invited to join us at the Dr Ian Grant Library on Sunday 20th September to write and illustrate a book in just 12 hours. Write a Book in a Day is a competition for teams of students to write a story, within surprise parameters, to be given to teenagers with cancer who are in hospital.
We have participated in this competition for a few years and every year the students involved have experienced, over the 12 hour period, creative highs and lows, lots of laughs, making new friends and the satisfaction of having written and illustrated an original book that will brighten the day of a fellow teenager who is sick in hospital. I will be meeting with students interested in participating in this competition next Tuesday (18th August).
ICAS
Entries to this year’s ICAS exams have now closed.
Students involved will be downloading the lockdown browser, under my supervision, onto their computers at recess on Monday. With this lockdown browser in place, the students’ computers will be ready for all the ICAS exams. It is important that the students have administration rights for their computer to be able to download the required lockdown browser.
The dates for the exams will be:
Competition | Sitting Date |
---|---|
Science | Tues 18th August |
Digital Technologies | Tues 25th August |
English | Wed 26th August |
Mathematics | Tues 1st September |
Chess
Congratulations to our College Chess team for their impressive victory over Xavier High School last Friday. Miles Martin was the only team member to be at school for the day, with the remaining team members being absent from school. We are very grateful to Karin Rezkella for stepping in at the last minute and to Owen Dufty for joining the game from his sickbed at home.
The Interhouse Chess Competition has begun with students from Years 7 to 11 competing during lunch each Tuesday to be the eventual College Chess Champion. It is lovely to see the students from different years getting to know each other and learn new strategies as they play against each other.
