Education Perfect Regional Languages Championships (NSW) 2020

At the beginning of this term, the Education Perfect Regional Languages Championships (NSW) 2020 started on the 28th July and was on for one week. We competed against schools from New South Wales. Students could practise any languages during this competition, and they had a go at French but not only! They tried Spanish, Arabic, German, Samoan and many other languages.

The Riverina Anglican College came 48th out of 358 schools in NSW. I am very proud of every student who had a go at it and especially eight students, who earned an award.

  • Credit Awards: Tahlia Lewry, Bianca Lubke, Ella Menzies;
  • Bronze Awards: Hugo Currie, Cleo Campbell, Jazmin Saunders, Cecil Wahba
  • Silver Award: Caitlin Cumberlege

The French Club offered a food tasting session last Monday. Students were able to experience French culture, tasting some French delicacies such as crepes, chocolate croissants, waffles biscuits and pate, and also watching a presentation about French dishes and desserts. Next session will be in Week 6 and students will virtually travel.

Eat rations.

Raise money.

Save lives.

Calling interested students to take part in...

"The Act for Peace Ration Challenge"

When is it?

The Act for Peace Ration Challange is running on the 13th-19th of September. However, our students can participate in week 9, 21st-25th of September due to the scheduled exams in week 8.

How it works...

Your pack contains a one-week supply of exactly the same food, in almost exactly the same quantities, that our local partner distributes to Syrian refugees in urban refugee camps in Jordan. It also contains two food ‘coupons’ for additional rice and flour, representative of the food coupons some refugees receive from other aid agencies.

There are also bonuses that you earn when you raise money which can be found here.

Who are you helping?

A little money goes a long way to supporting refugees! Find out more here!

There is no pressure to take part in this challenge, however if you would like to participate by showing your support, you can support morally and donate money, it would be much appreciated. Deadlines for entry close on the 31st of August

Where do I find out more information?

If you would like to know more,  chat to Mr Studdert or Holly Wilson in Year 11 at any time. We will be registering as a school and conversations regarding the challenge and Amnesty International are on every Friday lunch in Room 1.

"Can We Help" Campaign

Last week, Vannessa Jennings from Wagga Wagga City Council visited our College to share invaluable resources with our students. The "Can We Help" campaign aimed to provide information to support the emotional wellbeing of young people and address their immediate support needs. With many young people today impacted by drought, COVID-19 and increasing mental health pressures the “Can We Help” campaign ensures current and relevant information is available to young people.

The cam...paign included updating bus stops around Wagga, updating the Can we help Website and providing schools, community hubs and Youth Service providers crucial mental health contact information.

Vanessa said, "Marina provided invaluable feedback regarding the campaign and was instrumental in helping to secure a grant for the project".

The “Can We Help” campaign is a joint initiative with Wagga Wagga City Council, Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network through their Youth Community Grants program and Mission Australia.
