Year 7 Finalists of the 2022 Northcote Archibald Prize in Portraiture
On Wednesday last week we celebrated a multi-pronged exhibition of our creative students work, in true C Block style. Beatrice Aslanidis's Knowledge Tree was on display in its full glory and Beatrice gave an overview of how the Tree project unfolded, snipping the red ribbon to definitively mark the finishing line of her interactive creation.
Year 7 students and their families filled C1 to celebrate the achievements of the entire Year 7 cohort, their portraits displaying dazzling skill, technique, and connection to their subject matter. Each Year 7 form group had five finalists and one overall prize winner. The overall winner of the Archibald this year was Emily Johnson of 7H with a painting of her cousin. Ruben Christov of 7F was awarded Runner Up with a painting of his brother and Amelia Mason of 7C won the C Block Teachers Choice. All of these works can be viewed in C1.
The Art faculty staff were also so proud to showcase the work of the 2022 Year 12 Media, VCD and Studio Arts students. Our students have put an unbelievable amount of time and creative energy into their folios and final artworks. After 2 years of ‘online’ exhibitions, we were so excited to see so many people attending and to get such positive feedback on the work.
It is important for these budding artist and designers to have an audience beyond the student/teacher nexus. Thank you to all parents and families that attended. As the
Northcote High School Art Faculty Team, we could not be prouder of our students and their creative achievements, as they continue to grow as young artists and inspire each other, their teachers and the wider NHS community.
A huge thank you to everyone that contributed to make the night such a success. Chris Jones for his speech and handing awards to the finalists, the teachers that came to support and celebrate the achievements of their students, our fantastic admin team for their support behind the scenes and to all our C Block legends, for helping on the night.
