Mental Health Week
As we are all aware, adjusting to a post-pandemic world (“the new normal”) has been emotionally exhausting and not as easy as we thought it would be. Mental health issues continue to rise, and we know looking after ourselves, and providing support to others has never been more important.
The Student Services Wellbeing Team are proud to present their best Mental Health Week yet! This year we’re focusing on improving our mental health and wellbeing by encouraging everyone to implement healthy habits in the domains: Moving, Eating, Sleeping, Playing, and Giving.
Here are the events that the team have organised to celebrate Mental Health Week:
Teen Vaping- An Update for Families
On Monday 14 November (7:00-8:30pm), DARTA are presenting an online session for parents/families about vaping. The cost is $25 plus GST and the event will be live streamed but, for those unable to attend live, a recording of the event will also be made available for a period following the event's conclusion. You can register for the event here .
“Vaping (the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes or 'vapes') continues to be an issue that attracts a great deal of attention as well as debate across the country. Vaping is a new phenomenon, with the first e-cigarette being invented in 2003. As a result, many parents have little or no experience with the issue as the devices simply weren’t around when they were in their teens. This session will examine what we currently know about the use of e-cigarettes and vaping amongst Australian school-based young people.”
Upcoming Family Information Night
Thank you to the families that attended the recent presentation from NCASA on ‘Conversations About Sexual Consent and Pornography with Our Young People’. Our next information night for families will be on Wednesday 16 November, with Steven Dupon from the Institute of Games be presenting on ‘The Impacts of Video Games’. Stay tuned for more information.
Dental Van- Smile Squad
Unfortunately, the Smile Squad team have had technical issues with the dental van which has caused a delay in delivering this service to students. If you had an appointment this week, please be aware this will not go ahead and will be rescheduled for another date. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Wednesday 26 October is the final day to submit consent forms if you are wanting to take up this free service. You will receive information about your appointment, and you will need to present to the van at the scheduled time (location of the van is in front of the PAC). Thank you for your patience with the delay in this service.
