Senior School Sport

Mr Jamie Cook

Our College MCS teams are primed and ready to commence the summer season of Inter-School Sports starting this week. There has been a lot of hard work by the MCS Sport Coordinators to ensure Risk Assessments and COVID-19 Plans have been implemented and approved by all governing bodies of the Colleges’ involved in the MCS competitions. These challenges change daily to mirror the demands to protect all staff and students in sporting environments.

Our Year 8 and Year 9 Basketball teams will face Parramatta Marist in a split opening round of the season. The teams will travel to Minto to start their season but must remain vigilant with the health and safety restrictions put in place to ensure the safety of all involved.

MCS Cricket teams will engage in one more round of ‘in-house’ games before commencing their season in Week 5, where most of our teams will have away games.

Please see the tentative draw below.

A reminder to all parents, there are to be no spectators at these MCS sanctioned sporting events. Students are to use College transport to and from the games. Umpires and Coaches have been instructed to stop games immediately if parents approach venues/sidelines etc and make contact with student teams/groups. This competition requires all stakeholders to abide by the safety guidelines so all teams in all competitions can continue to see the season out.

A reminder as we are in Term 4 Summer Sports, that all students will be required to supply their College hat and water bottle for Thursday sport. Sunscreen will be provided to students who request it as we aim to create awareness and protection against the summer weather.

Co-Curricular Assemblies

Co-curricular awards have now been finalised and we now prepare for each year’s respective assemblies that will take place in Week 6 of this term. These assemblies, like last year, will be held in year groups with no audience.

Any student involvedt in co-curricular activities will receive a Commendation Certificate for their efforts. The College major awards, the ‘All Rounder’ and ‘Sport Person’ of the Year awards will be awarded to those students who have excelled in their respective sport and co-curricular activities.

Year 8 (Marian Centre) and Year 10 (La Valla) will assemble on Wednesday 18 November in Year Assembly time. Year 7 (Marian Centre) and Year 9 (La Valla) will assemble on Friday 20 November in Pastoral Care time.

Schoolboy Cup Academic High Performers

This year the NRL and Daily Telegraph introduced an initiative to identify those students involved in the 2020 Australian Schoolboy Cup who are performing well in the classroom, as well as on the sporting field.

This group of players represent one of the Schoolboy Cup competitions key value’s, in utilising the game of Rugby League to influence student learning and develop our elite junior players into positive role models within their school community. I would like to congratulate the players for their achievements, and how they have reflected your schools hard work and commitment to their education.

I am pleased to announce the Schoolboy Cup Academic High Performers team for 2020, as presented in the Sunday Telegraph over the weekend involved one of our St Gregory’s College students.

Well done and congratulations to Charlie Guymer of Year 10. Charlie debuted in the College 1st XIII this year and earned his starting spot in the two games of the Schoolboy Cup games that were played.

Upon hearing the news Mr MacMaster had the following to say.

Fantastic news! A well-deserved honour for Charlie – a quality young man and footballer!
