Mission

Last Friday was a wonderful day!

The students of Year 12 2021 gathered with their homeroom teachers and other staff and spent the day listening, discussing and praying together. At this time of their journey, as they officially begin their final year of school, it was timely for our Senior students to stop and reflect.

As we have been exploring our wild and precious lives, the theme chosen for the day was Born to be wild!

Wild – growing in the natural state,

unrestrained by the expectations of others, emotionally strong, brave.

As the Father sent me, so I send you.

John 20:21

The day began with a session called The Seed Within, exploring the gifts and talents which each person has and how they can be developed. This was followed by sessions exploring our responsibilities in pursuing academic, emotional and spiritual growth. We symbolically planted rosemary seeds in small pots which the Year 12 students will water and watch for growth over the next weeks and months. We finished the day with personal reflection and Mass.

The young men are to be commended for the spirit in which they entered the day and their willingness to share stories and insights. I am also grateful to the staff who shared their time and their stories: Mrs Sawyer, Mr Nelson, Mr Bingham, Mr Stefanski, Mrs Gardiner, Mr Ivancic and Mr Bullock who presented on the day, Mr Todd who ensured we were all fed throughout the day, Mr Gersbach and  Mrs Farias who supported in discussions and Ms Khoury who always prepares high-class PowerPoint presentations to accompany our speakers. Thanks also to Mr Bond and Ms Quinn for their hospitality in the Marian Centre and Father Aloysius for celebrating Eucharist with us. Below is a report on the day written by a group of students.

Year 11 Reflection Day

On Friday the 30th of September, Year 11 had the chance to spend the day as a reflective retreat to discuss and mark our official transition into Year 12. Although under the current circumstances the day had to be held here at the College, all of us boys still had the opportunity to grow and prepare for the year ahead. This day was filled with presentations led by various teachers, the main two sessions being split into a Spiritual and an Academic focus. Not only was this day a passing of stories and experiences from the teachers to students in order to help us grow as people, but we also had the chance to breakout into smaller groups, to have genuine discussions about our hopes and fears for the next year.

The day was incredibly important in creating a foundation for our cohort to build upon over the coming 12 months but most importantly it was a day of self-reflection, where individually we could question what are our strengths and talents to eventually have an idea of what type of man we want to become, and what impact we each want to leave. All up it was a fantastic day and we would like to give thanks to all the Year 11 Homeroom Team for their participation and guidance. More specifically, we thank Mrs Clarke, Mrs Sawyer and Miss Khoury for the time and effort they devoted in preparation for the day.

We are looking forward to growing even more in our final year at the College.
