Mass Friday 24th June-Feast of the Sacred Heart
Tomorrow, the school community will be celebrating Mass for the last time in Term 2. The feast day that we will be celebrating is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Mass will begin at 11.30 am. Everyone is invited to join us on this day.
Reflection
Tomorrow marks one of my favourite feast days of the liturgical year with the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. When I was appointed the principal at Sacred Heart Primary at Boggabri, my grandmother gave me a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that the priest gave her on her wedding day as a present to hang in my office. This picture is one of my prized possessions.
But back to the feast day. The heart of Jesus is a symbol of his love for us. Jesus' generous love for us was sometimes shown in paintings and statues with his heart crowned with thorns, bringing to mind his suffering. It reminds us that love and suffering often go together.
This feast is an opportunity to remember in a special way those who suffer because of a lack of food, clothing or shelter. A tradition related to Mass on this day was that people brought gifts of food and clothing to be shared among these people.
Prayer
Generous God,
you are always loving and merciful.
Give us loving hearts
so that we will never be separated
from the love of your Son, Jesus.
May we always remember
those who do not have food, clothing or shelter.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to Lochie, Adelaide, Katie, Grace, Adelaide and Claire who received the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday. Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who celebrated Mass with us, it is very much appreciated by Mons and myself.
