VISUAL ARTS

It has been a fantastic start to the year in the Art room as we focus on setting students up for success. Across all year levels, we have been discussing expectations, practising routines, and building positive learning habits to help create a calm and creative environment where all students feel confident to participate and take risks in their learning.

Our Foundation students have been learning about the primary colours and exploring the work of artist Piet Mondrian. They used bold black lines to create squares and rectangles before carefully applying primary colours using our “3 star” colouring technique to develop control and neatness.

Students in Years 1/2 have been inspired by the vibrant Mola artworks from Panama. They explored bright colours, patterns, and lines while creating their own animal designs using layered collage techniques.

In Years 3/4, students have been learning about Australia’s opal production. They are experimenting with a range of painting techniques to create shimmering opal artworks, focusing on positive and negative space.

Our Years 5/6 students are exploring the work of Australian artist Mulga, known for his surreal and playful cartoon characters seen on 7/11 Slurpee cups. They are designing their own imaginative fruit and vegetable characters, complete with sunglasses and moustaches, while developing their drawing and creative thinking skills.

We are also currently seeking donations to support upcoming projects in the Art room. If you have any spare thread for hand sewing projects or old CDs (cases not required), we would greatly appreciate them. Blank CDs with no pictures or designs on them are preferred, as they will be used for etching activities later this year.

We look forward to sharing more of our creative learning throughout the year.
