Across NSW, Aboriginal Communities and our schools are leading the way in keeping Languages strong through learning, sharing, teaching and speaking Language every day.
This year Aboriginal Languages Week, we'll celebrate and look ahead to a future where Aboriginal Languages continue to grow, thrive and be passed on to future generations with the theme:
“Living Languages, Strong Futures”.
We encourage schools to showcase local languages through songs, stories, dance and art to celebrate this important week.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Literacy Day celebrations continued
At St Joseph's Barraba students created their own Bigibila’s after listening to Corey Tutt share his beautiful story “Come Home Bigibila”.
NAIDOC Celebrations continued
St Joseph's Uralla celebrated the opening of their new Yarning Circle at this year’s NAIDOC Day and it is a must see! The dedicated space will be shared with all, for storytelling, learning, and reflection. The unique structure is designed in the shape of a serpent, complete with a head and a tail. This beautiful concept was envisioned by the inspiring Mrs Bianca Walters, Aboriginal Education Assistant. On the day O’Connor students attended and led activities along with AEAs Matthew Griffin, Tully Langenbaker and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leader of Learning James Russell.
To complete Term 3 celebrations St Francis Xavier's Narrabri and St Mary's Armidale both held beautiful assemblies led by the students inclusive of a meaningful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony in addition to the presentation of NAIDOC Awards. Congratulations to all staff involved.
