The Angelus Debunked
Do Catholics worship Mary?
The simple answer is No, Catholics do not worship Mary.
Catholics worship God alone (the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). However, Catholics honour Mary in a special way, higher than any other saint. This is called veneration (dulia), with Mary receiving the highest form, hyperdulia.
Why the Special Honour?
- She is Mother of Jesus, the Word Made Flesh (John 1:14).
- The perfect model of faith and discipleship, "full of grace" (Luke 1:28) by God's gift, including her sinless life.
- All her holiness comes from God, we honour her role in salvation.
