Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people. May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.
Welcome to Term Four
Welcome back to Term Four! I hope our students, families and staff enjoyed a well-deserved break and returned feeling refreshed and ready for the final term of the year.
Term Four is always a special time in our school community – a time to celebrate the learning, growth and achievements of our students, while looking ahead to the exciting opportunities still to come. We have a busy and rewarding term ahead, filled with learning, connection, celebration and important milestones for our students.
Thank you, as always, for the wonderful partnership between our school and families. Your support, encouragement and involvement make such a difference to our children and contribute so strongly to the positive culture of our school.
We look forward to a fantastic Term Four together and to finishing the year with pride, purpose and a strong sense of community.
2027 Class Placement Requests
We are in the process of configuring classes for 2027. If you wish to share information about your child that will support successful placement in a class for 2027, please make an appointment with me, via the school email address. Requests for an appointment to discuss 2027 class placement must be received no later than Friday 30th October. Please note, requests for 2027 class placement cannot be arranged through classroom teachers.
Capital Works
As you may know, we received funding from the Victorian Government’s Regional Sport Infrastructure Program to resurface and light the netball and basketball court on Dundas Street in the school’s south‑east corner. The resurfacing will deliver a fantastic outcome for our school, providing a refreshed, modern, and upgraded netball and basketball court. The addition of lighting will also allow this facility to be accessed by the broader community outside school hours. Construction is due to start this month and is forecast for completion in January ahead of the 2027 school year. Works may include the installation of site amenities and fencing, demolition and construction and the use of heavy machinery at times. Where possible, the builders will minimise disruption to usual school days. We will work closely with them to manage disruptions when they are unavoidable.
I thank you for your ongoing support. Please contact the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) if you have specific questions about the construction works. They are more than happy to answer any queries you may have – their details are below.
If you have any questions about the works at our school, you can contact the VSBA by calling 1800 896 950 or emailing vsba@education.vic.gov.au.
Community Park Activity Before and After School
We have had a couple of incidents at Miners Rest Community Park this week involving our students, which have resulted in some children arriving at school emotionally distressed following negative experiences, in the park and on the bike track.
We ask all families to please take a moment to speak with your children about the importance of making safe, respectful and responsible choices when in our community. Our students are representatives of our school, and we expect them to demonstrate our school values of Courage, Kindness and Respect wherever they are.
Please remind your children to treat others with kindness, respect personal space and belongings, and seek the support of a trusted adult if they experience or witness behaviour that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that our students feel safe, supported and proud to be part of the Miners Rest community.
See you at assembly on Friday!
Kylie Nissen.
