Library Buddy Reading: Building Connections

Our students have been bringing reading to life through our wonderful Buddies program, where older students support younger buddies in building confidence, responsibility, and a love of reading.

Students selected a Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) book whose title matched the first letter of their buddy’s name, adding a fun personal touch. They also used place cards to practise returning books correctly while learning how to care for our library.

The highlight was reading together, with students using expression and enthusiasm to bring stories to life. They proudly shared illustrations, discussed the stories, and helped their buddies record book titles and authors for the PRC. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed spending time together outside, laughing and playing.

More than just reading, this program encourages leadership, teamwork, and positive relationships across year levels. We are incredibly proud of the care, responsibility, and enthusiasm our students have shown through this special experience.

The students and teaching staff at Magill School are incredibly excited to announce that we achieved 2nd place in South Australia Rocks, a times tables competition run by the internationally renowned, award-winning app and learning platform, Times Tables Rock Stars.

South Australia Rocks challenged students to correctly answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible, giving their class and school the best chance of success.

The competition was fierce, with an incredible 3,183,233 questions answered collectively by 6,160 students across more than 96 schools and 428 classes.

Our school’s results were equally astonishing. On average, our top-performing class answered 1,469 questions correctly per student, while our highest-performing student answered an extraordinary 7,761 questions correctly overall. Our top class, F3, achieved an outstanding average of 2,535 correct answers per student, finishing as the 3rd best-performing class in South Australia. Our top student, Liam W - F2, scored an incredible total of 7,761 correct answers. A special mention also goes to F14, who were recognised as the 4th best-performing class in South Australia.
