Drawing the Flinders Ranges en plein air 

Sir Hans Heysen described the Flinders Ranges as "the bones of the earth laid bare.” This remarkable landscape continues to inspire artists to work en plein air, drawing and painting directly within the landscape. 

After spending almost a week immersed in this remarkable environment, students and staff had experienced the landscape through walking, observing its changing colours and light, and viewing it from different perspectives. On the final full day of camp, following a long hike, they were invited to slow down, find a place to sit and respond to their surroundings through drawing. The process became a way of pausing within the landscape and noticing details that might otherwise have been overlooked. 

Working en plein air encouraged close observation and thoughtful decisions about what to include, simplify or emphasise. The resulting works ranged from detailed studies of individual trees to broader views of the ranges, using line, tone and colour to capture the distinctive forms and atmosphere of the Flinders. 

The activity provided avisual record of the landscape and the experience of being there.

Year 11 Drama presents The Wolves

In Sarah DeLappe’s 2016 play, The Wolves, an undefeated indoor soccer team warms up for their next game while navigating friendship, politics, privilege, and the terrifying business of becoming yourself. On their artificial-grass battlefield, these young women are strong, funny, contradictory and completely in charge of their own turf, even as the world beyond their bubble begins to press in. The Wolves is not really about soccer. It is about what happens when young women find their voices, test their boundaries and realise they do not need to wait for permission to take up space.
