Senior Co-curricular Sports

Term 4 Information

Thank you for completing the Term 4 Sports Nomination Form for Years 7-11.  Based on the nominations received, we have submitted teams to SACSSGSA.  

We have nearly finalised teams and coaches and hope to email this information, along with training times, in Week 10.  We will not have the competition times and venues until just before the games commence in Term 4, Week 1.

Sports Award Evening

On Monday, 21 September, we will be hosting our Sports Award Evening to acknowledge the sporting success of individual students in Years 7-12. The awards that will be presented include:

• MVP Certificate – this award is chosen by the coach and recognises a player’s outstanding contribution to the growth of her team and the positive determination she displayed at training and matches throughout the season. We acknowledge her exceptional commitment to her team and Loreto College.
• Best & Fairest Medal – this award is given to one student per team who received the most votes. The votes were awarded after each game to the players who performed the best and showed good sportsmanship.
• Sport Badge – this award is given to students who have played a sport for a minimum of four years.
• State Level Representation Award – this award is presented to students who have achieved high sporting success and represented the state in their chosen sport.

Those who are receiving an award would have received an email on Tuesday, 1 September. 

Athletics

The South Australian All Schools Athletics Championships are being held on 24 – 25 October 2026 at Athletics SA Stadium, Mile End. If you have a child interested in competing at this event, you can find further information and register by clicking on the link below:

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Eliza (Year 10), who represented South Australia in the School Sport SA 15 Years & Under Girls’ Hockey team at the School Sport Australia Championships, helping the team secure a fantastic bronze medal.

This is a remarkable achievement, with the South Australian girls’ team winning a medal at the Australian Championships for the first time since 2012. Congratulations, Eliza, on this outstanding achievement!

Lucy (Year 8) recently represented Loreto at the 2026 Swimming SA Short Course State Championships, held from 28–30 August at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre. Lucy came away with an impressive 14 medals, a State Record in a freestyle relay, and an All Comers Record in the 100m Butterfly. An All Comers Record is a particularly prestigious achievement, recognising one of the fastest performances recorded, regardless of the swimmer’s state or country of origin.

Netball Semi Finals

Our Loreto Blue, Red and Silver teams all competed in semifinals last Saturday.

The Silver team took the court first, taking on St Joseph’s at Windsor Gardens. A few spectators optimistically arrived wearing sunglasses as the warmup began in sunshine, however, we were soon scrambling for umbrellas when the heavens opened just on start time. The rain was coming in sideways, which made ball-handling and goal shooting difficult, but the Silver team adjusted to the conditions well and took an early lead.

Harriet was showing excellent touch with her shooting, Milan was everywhere at centre and Matilda, Giorgia and Isla picked up some key intercepts in defence. Coach Millie rang the changes, with Belle manning the magnet board, and everyone stepped up when it was their turn. The team led from start to finish to record a strong win.

The Blue team was up next against Burnside at Campbelltown. The first half ebbed and flowed, with blustery conditions making goal shooting difficult. Some light drizzle only added to the difficulty after half time. We fell a couple of goals behind early in the third quarter but started to win the turnover battle and kept the ball in our attacking half for long periods. By three-quarter time we had managed to edge in front by one goal.

It looked like a close finish was brewing with everyone scrambling to read up on the extra time rules. We needn’t have worried! Loreto Blue took control of the game, playing our best quarter of the season and running out winners by six goals. A special mention to Tiana, who was deadly around goals in very tricky conditions, and also to Lucy, who controlled the defensive goal circle in the absence of Ellie, who was out injured.

We were back at Windsor Gardens for the final game of the afternoon, with the Red team taking on Magill. There were a few nerves early, and we were down 2-5 at quarter time. The team settled in the second quarter and had reduced the margin to one by the main break.

The opposition had one very tall shooter who was proving a handful but after half time Alessia and Charlie started to win some crucial contests. Courtney was accurate in the goal circle and Bailey gave us great drive at centre. After a jittery start, we ended up winning by nine.

Touch Football Carnivals

Loreto took a number of Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams to the Catholic Primary Schools Touch Football Carnivals last week. Our students have been doing touch football in PE with Ms Powell and Ms Edwards and were excited to get a chance to play some matches against other schools.

These carnivals are fast, fun, frenetic days. Each team plays six 17-minute matches with a 20-minute break between each one. The girls would have been tired by the close!

It was great to see our teamwork and understanding of the tactics evolve as the day wore on. Well done to everyone who took the field. We hope that you enjoyed the day!

Year 3/4 carnival on Tuesday:

• Our Year 3 teams both improved through the carnival and it was great to see them each score a few tries:
  • Well done to Judy and Ms Morrish’s team: Amelia, Ella, Eloise, Elouise, Euniece, Georgia E, Grace, Lola and Olivia.
  • Well done to Ms Powell’s team: Annabelle, Audrey, Ebony, Elsie, Georgia B, Mila, Molly, Pearl and Siobhan.
• Phoebe’s Loreto 3 team had 3 wins and 2 draws. The only game they lost was to another Loreto team! Well done, Brooke, Hannah, Ilaria, Lola, Madeleine, Maria, Poppy, Sarah and Sienna. Brooke caught the opposition napping in one game, scoring a try in the first 5 seconds!
• Ms White’s Loreto 4 team won 6 out of 6! The combined score from their six matches was 32-1…. Well done, Annabelle, Cleo, Ellie, Emma, Flora, Harper, Lily, Ruby, Sofia and Tatum. 
• Ms Shaw’s Loreto 5 team had 4 wins and 2 draws from their six matches. Well done Ava, Emily, Georgia, Isabella, Ivy, Myra, Riaana and Sophie.

Year 5/6 carnival on Wednesday

• Adele’s Loreto 1 team finished with 5 wins and a draw from their 6 matches. Well done to Alessia, Charlie, Courtney, Emily, Estelle, Grace, Helen, Milan and Summer.
• Ms Dottore’s Loreto 2 team finished undefeated, with 5 wins and a draw. Well done to Alyssiana, Chloe, Harriet E, Harriet W, Hazel, Isabella Mc, Isabella Mi, Isobel Bu, Ivy, Millie G and Sophia. Harriet E scored a try in the last few seconds of one match to give us a 4-3 win!
• Ms Borrillo’s Loreto 3 team picked up a couple of wins. Well done, Bailey, Elise, Elsie, Eva, Isabella, Isabelle, Madeline, Olivia, Rose, Vera and Willow.
• Glen and Ms Kendall’s Loreto 4 team had 4 wins. Well done, Annabelle, Ella, Harper, Imogen F, Kenya, Lucy K, Lucy Z and Scarlett.
• Ms Smith’s Loreto 5 team picked up a couple of wins. Well done, Aaliyah, Arabella, Eloise, Imogen E-C, Isobel Br, Sara and Tanvi.

Our Year 6 Championship team had a great carnival under the guidance of Ms Powell, winning 4 of their 5 matches and qualifying for the grand final. All the other Loreto teams had finished their matches by the time the grand final rolled around, so we packed the sidelines with our own cheer squad.

We fell behind 0-2 in the decider, but some razzle dazzle from Millie and then Eva saw us tie the scores 2-2 at full time to rapturous applause from our cheering section. This meant that the game went to extra time! Unfortunately, we went down in extra time, but it was a gallant effort against a very strong team. Well done to Alexis, Amelia, Colette, Ella, Eva, Evie, Lucy and Millie, who all picked up runner-up ribbons. A special mention to poor Lucy D-F, who starred in our first win but unfortunately picked up an injury and missed the rest of the carnival. We certainly missed her speed!

Many thanks to Ms Powell and Ms Edwards for all their organisation, to the Loreto staff and helpers who assisted with coaching, and to all the families who came along to support the teams.

Loreto Junior School students will get the chance to play touch football for the College in Term 1, 2027, in our weekly competition against Pembroke School and St Peter's Girls' School. Matches are played on Tuesday afternoons at the competing schools.

State Athletics Championship

Well done to Alessia H (5G), Eva P (6G) and Tatum Y (4G) who competed at the State Athletics Championships last week. The Division 1 event is the biggest primary school athletics event on the South Australian calendar, with very strong competition.

Results:

• Eva jumped 1.10m in the 11-year-old high jump, finishing in 8th place.
• Tatum came 6th in the 10-year-old 1500m race, with a time of 6 minutes 5 seconds. This time would have broken our school Year 5 1500m record (and Tatum is only in Year 4!).
• Tatum also came 8th in the 10-year-old 800m race, with a time of 3 minutes and 4 seconds. This time beat Tatum’s own school record of 3 minutes and 6 seconds for the event.
• Alessia jumped 3.46m in the 11-year-old long jump. Our Loreto Year 5 long jump record is 3.25m!

Well done, girls!

Hattrick Hero

Well done to Emily D (5B) who scored a timely hattrick last Friday against St Peter's Girls' School. It was a tight first half, with Loreto ahead 2-1 at the break. After half-time, Emily broke the game open with some dazzling runs and exquisite finishes. Loreto White took home a 5-1 win.

Rosha – Basketball Premiership

Congratulations to Rosha (6B) who won the premiership with her Norwood Flames Under 12 basketball team recently!
