4-year-old Kindergarten

Welcome families to the end of another busy Term, lets have a closer look at the two main topics we explored in Term 3!

German Language:

Hallo. That’s right this term the children learnt a new language… GERMAN!

The children have really enjoyed learning a different language and exploring the world in which they live, each week they have shown their excitement and interest in wanting to learn more!

Of course, at the start this was hilarious to the children, but after a while it became very catchy and we often heard the children using these words throughout the room.

These words were:  Hello (Hallo) Friend (Freund) Goodbye (Auf Wiedersehen) Welcome (Willcommen) and Good afternoon (Guten Tag).

Next the children learnt how to count up to 10 in German, the children had so much fun within this topic whilst also learning so much about the culture.

  1. Eins
  2. Zwei
  3. Drei
  4. Vier
  5. Fünf
  6. Sechs
  7. Sieben
  8. Acht
  9. Neun
  10. Zehn

Each week the children added to their German toolboxes and were always open to new challenges of the topics taught, and loved making these new discoveries. The children always approached this subject with a smile on their faces. It has further assisted them in broadening their understanding of the world in which they live.

We also explored the geography side of Germany, looking at the German flag as well as the capital of Germany - Berlin.  The children have absolutely loved learning about the German language, through learning, discussions and questions the children have been able to meet the intended learning around this topic. We are so proud of how far the children have come in learning a new language.

The Kindness Monster:

We introduced the children to our Kindness Monster. Our core values in the kindergarten room include respect, honesty, and being kind and friendly, which is everything the Kindness Monster is. The children were encouraged to take him home and include the Kindness Monster in their day to day adventures, and share these captured moments with their peers.

Numeracy:

Our next main focus for the term was numeracy. We strengthened our numeracy skills by counting up to 20, whilst also exploring higher numbers due to the children’s interests. We read the book ‘Ten apples up on top” by Dr Seuss, on our NEW interactive whiteboard! We are all very excited by this new tool as it creates more possibilities for children to learn through different styles.

Within our numeracy program we focused on formation, in the air we practiced writing our numbers. To help us learn how to write and further identify them we sang songs that will assist us further, such as 3 = around the tree, around the tree, that’s how you write the number three!

We put our thinking caps on as we explored measurement and shapes to further develop our numeracy skills and our interests around maths.

Throughout our  numeracy focus the kindergarten children were able to hypothesis, explore, research and investigate their thinking through a variety of mathematical learning. We came across many learning opportunities throughout these programs, which allowed the children to gain a stronger understanding around German and Numeracy.  We had so much fun and the children did so well explaining their thinking, we couldn’t be prouder of the kindergarten children!

Annalise, Ellie and Caila are looking forward to another fun and final term  :)
