River Room

Welcome families to another wrap up about a wonderful term of having fun as we learn through play. In the river room one of our main teaching techniques is through repetition play.

Repetition play is See it!, Hear it!, Do it!, Touch it! It’s an effect way for children to learn new skills and develop their knowledge about this big wide world.

Achieving our milestones

In the river room, us educators support all children with practicing their current and next milestones. Generally in this age group we see a lot of physical milestones been achieved over the course of the year. During term 3, we have witness and celebrated with the families of  some children manage to achieve their crawling, standing and walking milestones. These are precious and joyful moments that we educators celebrate with our wonderful families. You know the child is growing up too fast, every time the child achieves to hit another milestone!  Gosh! Time certainly does fly!

Learning about our body parts

The children are at the age where they are beginning to identify their own belongings. What better way to identify who you are as an individual then identifying your own uniqueness. Your eyes, your nose, your mouth, your hair, your hands, your legs, your foot. These children are ever so clever as they identify their body parts in a fun dance song called “heads, shoulders, knees and toes” and our favourite story book “I am me!”

In term 4, we will continue identifying individuality through having black and white photos of all children and educators, with the saying of “We all smile in the same language”.

Keep an eye out for this in the next coming weeks!

Introduction to dinosaur world!

Dinosaurs have been a favourite with these children. They love to “roar” like the dinosaurs “Stomp” their feet like the dinosaurs. We practice the roaring and stomping through our favourite dance song “We are the dinosaurs”.

There’s a forestland set up for the children to begin learning about the different types of dinosaurs. The basics figurings are of Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus Pterodactyl and Stegosaurus. Always a mouthful to pronounce them to the children, however with repetition of hearing the words the children begin to try to pronounce the names of the dinosaurs.

Introducing and identifying colours

We see colours everyday! What would the world be if we didn’t have names for each colour? Would we be able to describe the colour of the sun? The sky? The trees? The rainbow? The shoes? The jacket?

We begin the journey of introducing the colours to the children. Through repetition technique  we repeat the name (say it), the children (hear it) and they also (see it) as they point to the colour of the activity.

We’ve got visual show cards and velcro activities for the children to be interactive with. One of the favourite songs at the moment is “I can sing a rainbow”. This song introduce 6 basic colours for the children to recognise and identify the colours.

Dressing up embarks imarginary play

As we wrap up term 3 and heading into term 4, we are beginning to concentrate on independences. Dressing up in fun costumes is a great way to kick start learning how to dress themselves. There are a variety of outfits such as animals costumes, soccer player, construction worker, princesses, chef and much more for the children to choose. Dressing up gives the children the freedom of choice to choose which outfit they prefer to dress up in as we begin to progress with play and learn how to play with their imagination.

Ball pit madness

So many laughter and excitement screams come from the ball pit area every single day. The children absolutely love having the big ball pit out during our cold and rainy months. It’s certainly a fun way to get the energy out of us, when we are all stuck indoors. However,  Now the sun is no longer hiding from us and the temperature outside is rising, we will have to say bye bye to our ball pit. In exchange with the ball pit, we will be outdoors and having a ball of fun with water play.

Term 4 we would continue to practice independence skills, while embarking on the slow transition into Sun room. EEEKKKK!!! SUN ROOM? (Not sure if the River educators are ready to say goodbye to the River children :(    )

We will continue with open gate play with Sun room as the children would slowly become aware of the sun room environment, educators and other children.

Of course, How could we forget about Christmas coming up in term 4. Who’s ready for the Christmas rush?

Thank you for a fabulous term 3!
