Term 3
This term we have seen such growth in the children in regards to their independence, in how they express their needs and how they can communicate how they are feeling. Over this term we took lots of time to explore our feelings. What do we do when our feelings are too big for us? Is it ok to feel sad? How do we look after our friends? What makes us happy? We looked at lots of different facial expressions and talked about what they meant. We made faces out of blocks and loose parts. We matched faces, read stories and sang the emotions 'hokey pokey'. We finished off with The Colour Monster, which is all about identifying our feelings and emotions. It’s also a great way to use colour as a way of talking about how we are feeling.
AFFIRMATIONS…
We started our daily affirmations this term. Each day a child chose an affirmation from our Affirmation Tree. The reason we like to do this is it gives the children a chance to hear positive words about themselves, it helps with their confidence by standing out the front of a group, it contributes to their growth mindset and it puts in place feelings of being special, belonging and believing they can do great things! We will continue this throughout term 4 as the children are really enjoying it. Not everyone has had a turn yet as we ask the children if they would like to come up and help and they then have the choice to say yes or no.
TAKE HOME BEARS…
Our take home bear program has been lots of fun! The children are so excited to take the bear home and they are so proud standing out the front of the group and sharing with us what they got up to. We really appreciate all the family contributions with this program. We will continue this program throughout Term 4 so everyone will have a chance to spend some time with Ted, Polar, Maisy or Daisy.
SOME THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN TERM 4…
We will be focusing on numeracy with the children over Term 4. Supporting numeracy skills gives children an important foundation for their learning and development. When we talk about numeracy we focus on numbers, patterns, measurements, balance, problem solving, shapes and size. All these different concepts will be included throughout a daily curriculum and supported through stories, songs, activities and experiences. We have World Space Week in October which we are looking forward to exploring. We will also be looking at Halloween, Melbourne Cup, National Recycling Week and Diwali over the upcoming weeks.
It’s time to be SunSmart, so we will be incorporating this into our everyday learning too. And of course we will be doing lots of Christmas art and craft towards the end of November which we are so excited about.
If you would like to contribute to the program in any way we are always open to new ideas or suggestions to follow up on your child’s interests.
Thanks everyone!
