NAPLAN Results 2026

We are very proud to share some of the highlights from Macedon Primary School’s 2026 NAPLAN results. While NAPLAN is only one measure of student achievement, the results provide us with valuable information about student learning and the impact of our teaching programs.

Our Year 3 students achieved particularly strong results in Reading and Numeracy. In Reading, 78% of students achieved in the Strong or Exceeding proficiency levels, compared with 69% across Victoria. In Numeracy, 71% of our Year 3 students were Strong or Exceeding, compared with 67% across the state.

Our Year 5 results were outstanding, with students performing above the Victorian result in a number of key areas. An impressive 95% of Year 5 students achieved Strong or Exceeding in Reading, compared with 74% across Victoria.

Year 5 students also achieved excellent results in Numeracy, with 86% Strong or Exceeding compared with 71% statewide, and in Writing, where 81% achieved Strong or Exceeding compared with 73% across Victoria. 

These results are a wonderful reflection of the hard work of our students and the commitment of our staff to providing high-quality teaching and learning. They are also a testament to the support families provide for learning at home.

There are, of course, areas in our data that will continue to be a focus for improvement. Our teachers will use the results alongside classroom assessments and other learning data to identify areas of strength and ensure we continue to target our teaching where it will have the greatest impact.

Congratulations to our students and staff on these very positive results. We are incredibly proud of what our students are achieving at Macedon Primary School.

School Uniform Reminder

A reminder to families that students are expected to wear the Macedon Primary School uniform each day.

We have noticed an increase in students wearing non-uniform items, particularly hoodies from local sporting clubs and teams. While we understand these are often warm and comfortable, they are not part of our school uniform and should not be worn during the school day.

We ask families to please support us by ensuring students come to school in the correct uniform, including school-approved jumpers and jackets.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a consistent and positive school identity.

Students Leaving

As part of our preparations for the 2027 school year, we are beginning to plan our class structures, staffing and resources for next year. Having an accurate picture of our expected student numbers is an important part of this process.

If your child will be leaving Macedon Primary School at the end of this year to attend another school in 2027, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible.

We would be very grateful for your assistance, as accurate enrolment information helps us plan effectively for the year ahead.

Upcoming Events

We have a number of exciting events coming up at Macedon Primary School.

Book Week Dress Up Day – Friday 28th August

We are excited to celebrate Children’s Book Week on Friday 28 August. Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character for the day.

Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of books, reading, Australian authors and illustrators, and the joy that stories bring to children. It is a wonderful opportunity to encourage a love of reading and to celebrate the many characters and stories that capture our imaginations.

We can’t wait to see the school filled with characters from some of our favourite books!

Inquiry Expo – Wednesday 16 September, 3:45pm – 5:45pm

Families are invited into classrooms to see the amazing work students have created as part of their inquiry learning. Students are very excited to share what they have been learning and to showcase the fantastic work they have completed.

JSC Fundraiser: Footy Colours Day – Wednesday 16 September

On Wednesday 16 September, students are invited to come to school dressed in the colours of their favourite sports team. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation, with funds raised going towards our school house flags.

Colour Run – Friday 18 September, 1:30pm

Earlier this year, we had to postpone our Colour Run. The new date is Friday 18 September, the last day of Term Three, at 1:30pm. We are looking forward to a fun and colourful way to finish the term.

Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews

Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 8 September and Wednesday 9 September.

These interviews provide a valuable opportunity for families to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress, learning and wellbeing.

We are currently finalising interview times, and families will receive a Compass notification with booking information shortly.

If you are unable to meet with your child’s teacher during the scheduled interview times, please contact your child’s teacher directly to arrange an alternative time.

Attendance Update

Regular attendance is very important and makes a significant difference to student learning. In Victoria, all children aged 6 to 17 are required to attend school every day unless an exemption has been granted, and parents and carers must provide an explanation for any absence.

At Macedon Primary School, we are aiming for our average number of absences per child to be under 16.5 days for the year. If a child is averaging more than 5 days absent per term, Sue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing teacher, will contact families to discuss how we can work together to support improved attendance. We also ask that any family holidays during school time are discussed with the school and approved in advance.
