Literacy:

In Literacy, our prep students continued developing their phonics knowledge by learning the ‘qu’ and ‘x’ sounds. We practised identifying these sounds in words and had lots of opportunities to read and write words containing them.

We also learnt the tricky words ‘out’ and ‘come’. We practised reading, spelling and using these words in sentences to help build our confidence with high-frequency words.

For our Grade 1/2 group, they continued developing their phonics knowledge by learning the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ sounds. We practised identifying these sounds in words and used them when reading and writing. We also explored conjunctions and how they could be used to join words, phrases and ideas together. We looked at examples such as ‘it’s’ and ‘won’t’, learning how words could be combined to make our writing more concise and effective.

In Writing, we all finished our procedural writing unit by completing a full procedure about how to make fairy bread. We focused on organising our ideas in the correct order and including clear steps so that someone else could easily follow our instructions.

We also practised using time connectives, action verbs and precise language to make our procedures clear and easy to understand. The students enjoyed putting their learning into practice and creating their own complete fairy bread procedures!

Maths:

In Maths, we explored data and graphs. We learnt how to collect and organise data, use tally marks to record information, and ask questions to gather data from others.

The students created their own graphs showing the class’s favourite colours and used the information they collected to answer questions about the data. We also practised interpreting different graphs to find information and make comparisons. The students enjoyed collecting, representing and exploring data in a variety of ways.
