What's Happening In Primary

School Hats

Spring is in the air and the sun is shining!

As we have entered September, we are noticing the UV levels are beginning to rise again. 

Our usual approach at DCS is for school hats to be part of our uniform expectations during Terms 1 and 4. However, with UV levels increasing during late August and September, we recognise the benefit of students commencing hat use earlier when UV exposure is higher.

With that in mind, we are encouraging students to begin bringing their hats to school now and wearing them during outdoor play and activities. Hats can be purchased from the Central Office with primary students required to wear a DCS slouch or legionnaire hat.

We would really appreciate your help in getting this healthy habit started a little earlier by making sure your child has their hat packed and ready each day. Thank you for partnering with us as we care for our students together. 

Uniform Changeover

As we approach Term 4, it is time to start looking ahead at summer uniform for Primary students in Prep - Year 6. All Primary students are required to wear full summer uniform for Terms 1 and 4 as per our uniform policy.  This also includes our ‘Yes Hat, Yes Play’ policy requiring all primary students to wear either our school legionnaire or slouch hat whilst outside.

Please visit our uniform shop (now located in the Central Office) if you require any new uniform items during our office hours, 8:00am-4:00pm. 

We also have a range of free donated second-hand uniform available through our uniform store. Pop in and see our lovely admin staff in the Central Office and our team will be happy to show you what is currently in stock. Uniform donations are always welcome and can be left at the Central Office. There is also a DCS Community Uniform Facebook Group for buying, selling or giving away uniforms. Students in Kinder have the option of wearing navy track pants or navy shorts.

All items are available for purchase from the school uniform shop except for socks and shoes.

School shoes should be all black (with no other colours visible).

Primary Assemblies on Pause

We wish to advise that our Primary Assemblies will be on pause on Wednesday 23rd September and Friday 25th September.

Please join us on Monday 28th September for our Primary assembly from 8.30am in the Jiloa Centre. All certificates which would normally be presented at Friday assembly will be presented on Monday 28th September.

Prep and Year 1/2 Learn to Swim Program

Our Prep and Year 1/2 students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Learn to Swim Program at Splash over the past week. Commencing last Wednesday and concluding yesterday, the program provided students with valuable opportunities to develop their confidence and skills in the water.

It has been wonderful to see students embracing new challenges, building their swimming abilities, and celebrating their progress throughout the program. Many students demonstrated perseverance and courage as they worked towards mastering new skills.

A sincere thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for their support and assistance throughout the week. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the dedicated swimming instructors at Splash for their expertise, encouragement, and commitment to helping our students learn and grow.

Year 3 & 4 Learn To Swim

Starting today, all students in Year 3 & 4 will be participating in our Learn to Swim program. This will be held at the Splash Devonport Aquatic and Leisure Centre and lessons are taught by qualified swimming instructors. Class teachers and learning assistants will attend with their class.
