SPANISH
Prep
Students developed foundational Spanish vocabulary through songs, games and hands-on activities. Learning focused on animals, body parts and the weather, while building confidence in listening, responding and participating in classroom routines. We also celebrated “Book Week” by having reading sessions in Spanish of familiar books.
Year 1–2
Students learned to communicate basic personal information in Spanish, including their body parts, how the weather is today and favourite animals in Spanish. They practised vocabulary related to colours, numbers and month/ days of the week through interactive activities and games. To conclude the unit, students created their own Spanish-favourite word signs, demonstrating their understanding of key vocabulary and simple sentence structures.
Year 3–4
Students learned to talk about their likes and preferences in Spanish routines using nouns, adjectives and regular present tense conjugations. Through speaking, reading and writing
activities, they developed their ability to describe things they like and dislike. As a final task, students completed a "Mi Diccionario" project, where through reading in Spanish they were able to choose words in Spanish and write its definition to include it in a collective dictionary.
Year 5–6
During Term 3, students learned about how to express simple sentences and expressions in Spanish, which are related to clothing, physical descriptions and likes. They designed and created their “Spanish Collage”, where learners presented their favourite topic learned using creative and engaging images. We also had a cooking class where students learned about Colombian food!
STEM
In STEM, students have been exploring the theme, ‘Where we are on Earth and Space’. They have been exercising and strengthening their knowledge and skills in a wide range of topics from the Earth and space sciences of the Victorian Curriculum.
During National Science Week, students from years 1-6 enjoyed exploring a variety of exciting exhibitions at Scienceworks. Exhibitions included Sportsworks, where they could race against Cathy Freeman, and Think Ahead, where students could design their own environmentally focussed virtual car. This was also accompanied by a visit to the Planetarium where students reclined and relaxed while they learned and gazed out into a virtual space.
Prep students have been expanding their scientific vocabulary and knowledge, investigating our Solar System, and Aboriginal beliefs and stories of the Milky Way. They created Australian animal constellations and explored how the rotation of the Earth gives us night and day. Students also examined the changing of the weather during the four seasons, and how humans and animals alter their behaviour to adapt to different temperatures.
Year 1/2 students explored the Solar System in depth, solidifying their understanding of the Sun, the planets, and the Moon’s phases. They looked into human space travel and what it is like for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Students investigated the vastness of the sun in comparison to our Earth and created 3-dimensional models of our Solar System.
Year 3/4 students grasped how Earth’s conditions are perfect for sustaining life. They explored the Earth’s resources and how they are used in everyday products, equipment and in building. They investigated sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rock types, and mineral samples including pyrite and gold from mining sites. Using a microscope, students examined different types of rocks found on the school grounds. They illustrated their samples and strengthened their vocabulary using scientific words to describe their findings.
Year 5/6 students delved deep into the fundamentals of space, with topics including: how gravity keeps our planets in orbit around the sun; why the Earth is tilted; human space exploration and the Space Race; and the possibilities of life on other planets. Using their coding skills, they programmed spheros to avoid obstacles and perform a return journey around a world globe. Students also worked in collaboration on a major research project. They inquired into their own space curiosities and presented their findings to the class, answering any further questions from their peers.
ART
Book Week in the Art Room – Symphony of Stories
This term, our Visual Arts program joined in the Book Week celebrations, with students across Prep–6 creating artworks inspired by the 2026 theme, Symphony of Stories. We explored the connection between stories, music, characters and creativity, with each year level taking on a different project.
Our Prep students brought plenty of colour and sound to the Art Room, creating bright tambourines complete with bells and ribbons. They also decorated their own records, combining music and art in a fun, hands-on way.
Our Grade 1/2 students chose some of their favourite book characters and drew them directly onto sheets of printed music. It was fantastic to see such a mix of familiar characters appearing amongst the musical notes and to hear students sharing why they had chosen them.
Our Grade 3/4 students travelled back in time and transformed old cassette tapes into miniature works of art. Using paint pens, they decorated the cassettes with colourful designs inspired by music, stories and their own ideas.
Our Grade 5/6 students created their own sock puppet characters, thinking carefully about personality, expression and character design. Their puppets were then put to good use during a special buddy reading session with our Prep students, where the older students shared stories and brought their characters along for the fun.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week 2026, bringing together books, music, art and storytelling across the whole school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
In PE, students have been focussing on developing hand-eye coordination, ball control and movement skills through a range of sports such as Bat Tennis and Soccer. Students in years 3-6 have participated in a basketball clinic, developing their skills, teamwork and game strategies in a fun and supportive environment.
Selected students from years 3-6 who performed well in our school Athletics Day in Term 2 were also given the opportunity to compete at District Athletics against other schools.
There were 8 students who finished in the top two positions in their events and were able to advance to Divisional level competition several weeks later at Keilor Park. This is a hge achievment. Congratulations to: Sameer, Selina, Rahel, Kori, Regan, Finley, Tiffany and Leni!
Our Prep-2 students have continued to build their fundamental movement skills through a variety of activities. They have developed confidence in skills such as throwing, catching, kicking and striking, while also learning to work cooperatively, follow rules and participate safely with others.
