School-wide Positive Behaviour Support framework

School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.

 

When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

Gisborne Secondary College has appointed an SWPBS Coach

Gisborne Secondary College is excited to announce that we have appointed an SWPBS Coach who will support students and staff at the college in delivering the Framework. The person will also be a member of the College Leadership Team from 2026. 

 

Some of you may be familiar with Ms Tavares Green, who has been at the College since 2024 teaching Textiles, Food and also delivering the Family Kitchen Workshops.

 

Some of the key responsibilities of the SWPBS Coaching role are to:

  • Facilitate the development of a shared vision, values, and behavioural expectations that are clearly communicated to staff, students, and families.
  • Promote consistency in behaviour management practices across all classrooms and settings.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers and education support staff in SWPBS practices.
  • Model evidence-based strategies that foster positive classroom culture and student engagement.
  • Lead professional learning communities and workshops that align with SWPBS principles.
  • Support teachers in embedding preventative and restorative practices within their pedagogy.
  • Engage families and the wider school community in promoting positive behaviours and supporting student wellbeing.
  • Provide regular reports and recommendations to the Leadership Team on progress and impact.
