Year 8 Summit Camp

In Week 2 of Term 4, our Year 8 students attended Summit Camp in West Gippsland. Below is a short blog from one student as well the coaches from the camp.
My time at camp. We went to ‘The summit’ for the end of year camp, it was a great experience with so much different activities, some of my favourites were the bag blitz and the monster course. Me and my friends had so much fun working together in activities and trying stuff most camps don’t have. The coaches were all very nice and encouraging of everyone, helping them if they were scared and making the activities even more fun. At the end I got chosen to ride in the tank and it was an incredible experience with my friends.

The Year 8 legends from Gisborne Secondary College rolled into The Summit on 13 October buzzing with energy for three huge days of fun, challenge, and growth. They met their awesome coaching team—Spinks (Team Leader), Lawrie, Chris, Lucy, Dailigh, Simon, Poppy, Ant, with Simon A joining later—and got straight into the adventure!

Activities & Tribe Names
After a lively round of Safety Up and a goal-setting session on Target–Stretch–Super Stretch, the crew launched into rotations across:
- Summit Window
- Bush Challenge
- Leap of Faith
- High Wire
- Bag Jump
- Inflatables
- Sky Bridge

- Laser Skirmish joining later. Tribes brought the vibes with names like 6–7 Mangos, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Cool Goblinz, Team Lucy, Wizz Fizz Warriors, Trevdogs, Fantastic 13 Plus, and Bok Choy.
Day One – Kicking Off Strong
Helmets on, harnesses clipped, and spirits high—the first rotations set the tone: courage, teamwork, and plenty of laughs. The tribe names were locked in and the momentum carried right through the afternoon.
Day Two – Intention & Monster Energy
The morning began with Spinks guiding a powerful intention session—choosing how to show up and support each other. Then it was straight back into activities before tackling the Monster Course… twice! The second lap focused on improvement, grit, and tribe spirit—muddy, loud, and absolutely unforgettable.
The Monster Course
Two laps. One goal: be better than before. Every tribe dug deep for each other—pushing sleds, hauling, crawling, cheering—then rallied even harder on lap two to chase their improvement time. What a show of resilience and teamwork!
Final Day – Gratitude & Goodbyes
Camp wrapped with a gratitude session led by Spinks, two final rotations, and a big celebration of personal wins and tribe effort. Each group crowned a Values Winner—someone who truly lived the Five Keys—before those legends scored a victory lap in The Summit Army Tank.
Tribe Reflections & Tank Time
From conquering heights to backing each other in the mud, the reflections were all heart: courage shown, friendships strengthened, and comfort zones well and truly stretched. Values Winners below—absolute stars who embodied the Summit spirit.
