Principal's Report

As we head toward our week of 140th celebrations, I cannot help but hear the whispers in the walls. Whispers of an Echuca gone by.... and yet I can also clearly hear the loud laughter and conversation of our current students as they head out to lunchtime.

The stories in the Apsley building and about the Brigidine Convent High school (as we were once called) are stories of the heart, stories of connection and bonds that have lasted a lifetime. Stories of boarders and the Nuns; the clear boundaries that existed and funny stories of how the rules were broken. Most people in Echuca Moama have some connection or link to our College, even if that’s just simply to admire our beautiful street view opposite the port.

We are so privileged to play a small part in the history of this beautiful community that is St Joseph's College.

We pay tribute to the strength and kindliness of the Brigidine Sisters who had the determination and the tenacity to travel to Australia (Echuca) and establish a number of schools, St Joseph being the first in Victoria. I find it difficult to imagine their timeline; arrive in Echuca, weeks later set up a school; a school that has thrived and continues to evolve today.

Our Kildare Campus is testament to their ongoing influence and foresight, but it is also a clear symbol of the changing of the guard. Kildare Ministries is forged through courage and a vision of sustainability; a vision that will carry and guide this College for the next 140 years.
