Greater Western Region Senior Girls Cricket
On Wednesday 4th March BHS made the short trip over to Vic Park for the SSV Greater Western Region Senior Girls Cricket competition. Having not played a match at the Eureka Division event the girls were excited to play their first cricket match for the school this year.
The team had one Ten/10 match against Trinity College for a place in the SSV State Quarter Finals. Trinity won the toss and elected to bat first making 102 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. With over 10 runs an over required the BHS team got off to a steady start but came home with a bang scoring 60 runs in the last 3 overs to chase down the total and amass a total of 120 runs to take the victory with the loss of 3 wickets.
Coach Robert Simmonds noted it was sessional game for Mia Fray claiming 3 wickets and scoring 68 runs with the bat. He also thanked the students who joined the team at late notice to fill some gaps from absent students. Students then progressed to the SSV State Quarter Finals which took place on Monday 16th March at Eastern Park Geelong.

Eureka Intermediate Volleyball
On Tuesday 10th March BHS entered 2 Volleyball teams (Intermediate Boys, Intermediate Girls) into the SSV Eureka Intermediate Volleyball competition at Daylesford College. We always appreciate Daylesford College hosting the SSV Eureka Volleyball competitions in conjunction with the Daylesford Volleyball Association.
The Intermediate Boys found themselves in a 7 team Pool Play competition. They drew Pool A alongside Daylesford Secondary College B (1 set-52 points to 2-50), Daylesford Secondary College A (2-42 to 0-26) and Woodmans Hill Secondary College (2-42 to 0-28). Beaufort Secondary College B Team, Mount Rowan Secondary College and Phoenix Secondary College made up Pool B.
2 wins, 1 loss secured BHS second spot in Pool A and a Semi Final match against Beaufort Secondary College. The BHS team carried the momentum into the semi final winning the match 2-42 to 0-23 to book a place in the Grand Final against Phoenix Secondary College. Both sets were very close but BHS held its nerve to win both sets 2-42 to 0-32. The Intermediate Boys were declared the Eureka Division winners for 2026.
The Intermediate Girls also found themselves in a similar situation with an 8 team Pool Play competition. They drew Pool A alongside Daylesford Secondary College A (2-52 to 1-44), Daylesford Secondary College B (2-41 v 0-31) and Phoenix Secondary College B (2-42 v 0-19). Beaufort Secondary College A, Beaufort Secondary College B, Mount Clear College and Phoenix Secondary College A made up Pool B.
With 3 straight wins the BHS team secured a Semi Final place against Phoenix Secondary College A Team which they swiftly won 2-42 v 0-20. Daylesford Secondary College A awaited in the Grand Final, a rematch from earlier in the day. Unfortunately, the match didn’t go the same way with Daylesford coming out the victors 2-42 to 0-34 to leave BHS the runners up.
The Intermediate Boys team has now qualified for the SSV Greater Western Region Intermediate Boys Volleyball competition on Tuesday 31st March at Horsham Basketball Centre.

Senior Girls State Cricket Quarter Finals
On Monday 16th March BHS made the trip to the Eastern Park Cricket Oval in Geelong for the SSV Senior Girls State Cricket Quarter Finals. Weather was less than ideal with lots of rain prior to the match making the ground very soggy! The team had one match against Maribyrnong College, one of the strongest sporting state schools in the state in a Twenty/20 match.
BHS got off to a good start winning the toss and electing to bat. The BHS team put together a score of 55 runs in extremely difficult batting conditions in the rain. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough runs with Maribyrnong College chasing them down to be declared the winners and move onto the Semi Final.
Coach Robert Simmonds noted that the team had several state level players so the team put up a great fight against a quality opponent. They also enjoyed the McDonalds trip on the way home.
Students involved: Zoe Berrigan, Jessica Dawe, Mia Frary, Eloise Hansen, Kate Hardacre, Ivy Madden, Lilac Remilton, Summer Remilton, Isabelle Strawhorn
