Prayer
Prayer is raising one’s mind and heart to God. We encourage our students to speak to God in their own words each day; sharing their thoughts, worries, gratitude, and hopes. They do this in class by sitting in quiet and listening to their hearts. Here is an example:
The Examen – A Prayer for the End of the Day
1. Make the sign of the cross.
2. Be still and remember God - Sit quietly. Take a slow breath. Remember that God is with you and loves you.
3. Say thank you - Think of one good thing from today. Say, “Thank you, God, for this gift.”
4. Think about your day - What made you happy today? When were you kind? What was tricky or hard? When was it hard to be kind?
5. Say sorry and ask for help - If you made a mistake, say, “Sorry, God.” Ask Jesus to help you do better tomorrow.
6. Look to tomorrow - Ask God to help you be loving, brave, and respectful tomorrow. Place tomorrow in God’s hands.
7. Finish with a prayer - “Thank you, God, for loving me. Be with me always. Amen.”
8. Make the sign of the cross.
I invite you, too, to find some time today to pray.
Kind regards
Liana Stella
