Koonung Secondary College Athletics Carnival 2025 – A Day of Sprints, Spirit, and Sausages

On the 13 May, the Koonung Secondary College community held its annual Athletics Carnival at Hagenauer Reserve in Box Hill. Students ran, jumped and threw their best across a full program of events including the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints, the 800m and 1500m middle distance races and the field events of long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus and shot puts.

Adding to the fun and friendly competition were the novelty events where students joined in for a few games of soccer and the hilarious "Anything but a Baton Relay”, where a baguette was passed around the track during the 4x100m race. A personal highlight of mine was the highly anticipated Teachers vs Students Relay, where the teachers once again claimed “victory” (that’s six wins in a row!!)

The carnival also supported important causes with several fantastic fundraiser events. The Live Life sausage sizzle kept everyone fuelled and the Interact Club bake sale offered sweet treats for a great cause. Students flexed their muscles in the Push-Up Challenge which included a high-energy chin-up competition. Many students also signed up to take part in the Push-Up Challenge later in June where they will each do 3214 push-ups in 23 days.

A massive congratulations to Roberts house who were the champions of the 2025 Athletics Carnival scoring 2823 points on the day.

I would like to thank all students and staff who participated and helped on the day, and especially to our House Captains, Judy Ahmed, Ella Peterson, Nathan Truong and Timothy Hanus for their leadership.

The Koonung spirit was well and truly alive!
