Year 11 Media
To kick off the new term, Koonung’s Year 11 Media students visited ACMI to check out Top Screen and get inspired by the best student films in the state. Last term the class got behind the cameras themselves to shoot their first productions, a TV Credit sequence. Here are some of the behind-the-scenes!

Year 10 VCD students bring everyday objects to life through observational drawing!
As part of their preparation for an upcoming assessment task, designing a Memphis-inspired toaster, students focused on detailed observational drawings of both a Chupa Chup lollypop and a toaster. This hands-on drawing task helps develop their understanding of form, proportion, and surface detail, which they’ll apply in their final design work.
After carefully sketching their lollypop, students were rewarded with a sweet treat—and once the toaster drawings are complete, toast is on the way too!
Great work, 10VCD – a creative and delicious start to your design journey! 🎨🍭🍞
Using a Chupa Chup lollypop as their subject, students focused on capturing form, detail, and texture with impressive skill. The best part? After all their hard work, they got to enjoy the sweet reward by eating their artistic muse!
Fantastic effort, 10VCD – well done! 🎨🍭
Artist of the Week
Each week we celebrate the work of enthusiastic artists:
Lanxin (Luna) XU
Congratulations to Luna Xu of 7J! Luna has been selected as a KSC Artist of the Week. Luna completed this work as part of her studies in Year 7 Art and was nominated for Artist of the Week by her Art Teacher, Ms Humphris. The class assessment task was a 'Still Life'.
Please read what Luna has written to describe her art piece.
My inspiration came from paintings from the 1800s. I took inspiration from Van Gogh's style, a messy, yet beautiful style which I knew would be perfect for my assignment on 'still life'.
This still life uses colour and shape to show how quiet moments can hold powerful feelings. The deep reds and cool blues reflect both warmth and distance, like memories that stay with you. The yellow jug highlights the emotions comfort, joy and little things that make us feel safe, notice how there's more light bouncing off?
To me, sometimes even the way light bounces off a surface can hold meaning, not because it shouts, but because it reminds us to slow down and notice.
Queena HU
Congratulations to Queena Hu of 8G! Luna has been selected as last weeks’ KSC Artist of the Week. Queena completed this work as part of her studies in Year 8 Visual Communications and Design and was nominated for Artist of the Week by her Visual Arts Teacher, Mr Henson. The class assessment task was a 'Book Cover Design'.
Please read what Queena has written to describe her art piece.
My cover design for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone perfectly captures thecharm and wonder of this beloved fantasy story. Bright colours and whimsical illustrations draw readers into the magical world of Hogwarts, where young Harry Potter embarks on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery. The cover design cleverly incorporates iconic elements such as Harry's iconic glasses, magic broomstick and Hogwarts Castle to create an immersive experience. A detailed blurb on the back, written in an engaging, fanciful font, sets the stage for Harry's adventure, inviting readers to delve deeper into this fascinating story of friendship, courage and the triumph of good over darkness. This cover design perfectly captures the essence of the Harry Potter series.
