Dear Families and Students,

It has been a wonderful and busy start to the term, with students already engaging in a range of exciting learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

Looking ahead, our annual Swimming Program is fast approaching. Students in Foundation to Year 2 will participate in swimming lessons during Week 3, while students in Years 3 to 6 will attend their program in Week 4. Swimming and water safety are essential life skills for Australian children, and these lessons provide valuable opportunities for students to develop confidence, improve their technique and strengthen their understanding of safe practices in and around water.

Also in Week 3, students will participate in a Responsible Pet Ownership Incursion. This important program teaches children how to safely interact with dogs and promotes responsible behaviours around family pets and animals in the community. Students will learn helpful strategies to remain safe and confident when encountering dogs in a variety of situations.

We are also delighted to welcome Liam Twomey back to Cobram AGS. Liam will meet with students involved in our design project, and selected Year 5 and 6 students will have the opportunity to present their designs and ideas to him. This is a wonderful chance for students to showcase their creativity, problem-solving skills and learning.

A highlight of every year is Grandparents Day, which will be held on Friday of Week 3. This is always a special occasion for our school community. We warmly invite grandparents and special friends to join us for our Chapel Service and remain afterwards for morning tea with the students. The day provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important role grandparents play in the lives of our children.

Looking further ahead, while our Year 5 and 6 students are enjoying their Canberra Camp in Week 6, we will begin welcoming our newest students to the Cobram AGS community. Our 2027 Foundation students will commence their transition program on 10 November, with Miss Dorian hosting and guiding the children as they take their first steps on their educational journey. These transition sessions are an exciting milestone for both students and families, helping to build confidence and familiarity as they prepare to begin school next year.

As always, we thank our families for their continued support and partnership. The coming weeks promise to be full of learning, growth and memorable experiences for our students, and we look forward to sharing these opportunities with them.

Year 1/2 Twisted Science Excursion

Our Year 1/2 students had a great time getting hands-on with science during their excursion to Twisted Science in Echuca! Our budding scientists had plenty of fun exploring chemical and physical reactions, with one of the highlights being the chance to create their own colourful ‘rainbows’ in paint palettes. They then dropped the colours onto goldenrod paper and watched as the colours changed right before their eyes!

There was plenty of curiosity, excitement and some very impressed young scientists as they experimented, explored and discovered how science works!

Below are some student perspectives of the excursion.

Archie Pierce:

Last Thursday we went to Twisted Science and we went on the bus for over an hour and then we had recess and we walked up to the front door and went inside. We did chemical reactions and then we had a play, had lunch and walked to the bus.

Zalia Trengove:

Last Thursday we went to Twisted Science and we went on the bus to Echuca, then the workers told us some rules. First, we went to do an experiment. I paired up with Amina and we made different colours using chemicals. It was so fun. Then we went in a room with lots of things to do. We spun on the spinning chairs and we went in the glow in the dark room. There was a mirror maze that was weird. We went outside and had lunch on the grass, near the river and then we went back on the bus to school.

Leo Watkins:

Last Thursday we went to Twisted Science and we went on the bus. When we got there we did an experiment. In the big room I was speaking to Mrs Williams through a tube, she was in another room, talking through the tube! It was fun. I built a dinosaur with Harry and then we had lunch on the grass. Then we got back on the bus back to school and we all went home.

Junior School Assembly - 16 October

Congratulations to all our Junior School students who were recognised at our recent assembly! A special focus of the assembly was celebrating students who consistently demonstrate the qualities of an inclusive learner. Whether it’s helping a classmate with a challenging task, inviting someone to join a game at lunchtime or simply showing kindness and consideration towards others, these small everyday actions make a big difference within our school community.

We also celebrated students for their excellent contributions and achievements in Music, Art and Sport, recognising the many different talents and interests across our Junior School. A number of students also reached an exciting classroom milestone, proudly receiving their pen licences in recognition of their developing handwriting skills!

Congratulations to all our award recipients. It was wonderful to celebrate such a wide range of achievements and positive contributions across our Junior School!
