We're taking it in our stride on Friday, 22nd May

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t  realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

  • Walking with them the whole way to school

  • If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop

  • If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great  opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Every student who walks to school on Friday, 22nd May will receive a special tattoo and a Mercy Card as they enter the gate. They may choose to walk all the way to school with a parent or carer, ask to be dropped off at a friend’s house to walk with them or ask their parent or carer to park at least a few blocks away from school and walk the rest of the way. Students who usually ride to school are able to ride on this day and will still receive their tattoo and Mercy Token.

Carline- Safety Procedures

Parents and carers are reminded about the importance of using our school’s carline service.

We ask that you DO NOT line up too early for the afternoon car line as it limits parents accessing the pre-school safely to pick up their babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

  • Car signs with student surnames need to be clearly displayed and legible
  • Students need to be able to enter and leave the car unassisted
  • Students are not to walk  between cars and are to use the pedestrian crossing
  • Please refrain from opening car boots particularly with large cars - school bags should be transported in the vehicle
  • There needs to be two cars stationed before and after the pedestrian crossing when students enter or disembark from the car
  • Please drive slowly - 5km- and be attentive at all times with the large number of students using this service
  • The school administration and staff car park are not to be used for the drop of or pick up of students.
