QUEENS - Production Update

2026 Oberon High School Production Update
QUEENS – By Kristen Doherty
Get ready for a bold, high-energy theatrical experience! Our production students are busily rehearsing for Queens, a vibrant and contemporary performance by Kristen Doherty that reimagines one of history’s most famous stories in a completely fresh way. Interspersed with powerful musical ballads that have been selected by Musical Director Renae Barnett and sprinkled with fierce choreography by Lincoln Tait, Mackenzie Barling and Abbie Waldron, this is a show that can’t be missed.
Inspired by the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII, Queens takes audiences on a thrilling journey through power, identity, love, and survival—but with a modern twist. Instead of being confined to the past, these women step into the spotlight to tell their own stories, reclaiming their voices in a world that once silenced them.
What makes Queens especially exciting is its mix of humour, emotion, and contemporary language. The characters feel real, relatable, and surprisingly modern, despite their historical origins. Each queen brings her own personality and perspective, creating a dynamic ensemble full of energy, conflict, and powerful moments of self-expression.
Through sharp dialogue, powerful songs and engaging storytelling, the play explores big ideas: Who gets to tell history? How do we define ourselves beyond labels? And what happens when we challenge the roles society expects us to play?
Audiences can expect a performance that is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, as our talented students bring these iconic figures to life with creativity and confidence.
We can’t wait to share this exciting production with our school community.
