Welcome to Teresa Meixner – German Language Assistant

Teresa has been appointed by the Education Department to work at Oberon as a language assistant for 2 days each week until the end of the year. We welcome Teresa to the school and our region. She comes from Hamburg in Germany. We look forward to her helping both students and teachers with the teaching and learning of German.

Goodbye to German exchange students Ida and Simona

Ida and Simona spent their last day at Oberon on Thursday 23 April. They were part of the exchange program BJR – Bavarian Group Ring and were here for 10 weeks. Both girls enjoyed being at Oberon and look forward to their exchange partners Iesha and Beatrice returning in November to Bavaria. One year 10 German class farewelled them with some Australian treats such as vegemite, lamingtons and fairy bread. Both Ida and Simona arrived safely back in Germany via San Francisco last Saturday night.

Indonesian Restaurant Visit

On Tuesday 31st March, our Year 10 Indonesian class, along with Bu Pritchett and Ms Waldren attended at an excursion at Nova Balinese Kitchen in Pakington St Newtown.

We had a buffet style lunch with the following Indonesian foods: lumpia (spring rolls), perkedel jagung (corn fritters), sate ayam (satay chicken sticks), mie goreng and nasi goreng. Lezat sekali!! (Very delicious)

Then for dessert, we had dadar gulung, which are green, pandan crepes rolled up with a filling of palm sugar and shredded coconut. Around half of the class thought they were enak (yum) and half of the class tidak begitu suka (didn’t really like them).

At the end of our meal, we chatted to Nova, the Balinese owner of the restaurant, about Indonesian foods and we got to ask him lots of questions.

If you love visiting Bali and want to get a taste of the food in between Bali trips, we can highly recommend Nova Balinese Kitchen!
