Italian

Throughout Term 3, students reviewed and practised greetings, counting in Italian, days of the week, colours, and telling the time. The students in 3/6 were introduced to months and seasons of the year.
The students learned to recognise and write food items in Italian. Students in grade 3/6 tried writing shopping lists with a variety of fruit, vegetables and other food items. Grade 1/2 students were given the opportunity to role-play customers and shopkeepers in our classroom Italian shop (Negozio Italiano)
During Book Week we viewed an animated version of the famous Italian children's book PJNOCCHIO by Carlo Collodi. Students made their own Pinocchio puppets and learned to recognise different body parts and facial parts in Italian especially Pinocchio's "naso lungo". Students really enjoyed this work, creating some fantastic puppets which look amazing!
We have also been learning to recognise different items of clothing in Italian (I vestiti). Students in Grade 5/6 were encouraged to work in teams to cut and paste clothing on a figure and label items of clothing. Students were encouraged to say and translate a relevant sentence eg "John indossa una giacca rossa" (John is wearing a red jacket). They have also been learning to distinguish between masculine and feminine words.
Students in Grade 1/2 identified their own clothing and matched it with vocabulary they have learned. They cut and paste clothing items on a boy or girl cut out.
