Board of Governors Update

The Board has continued its work this Term with a focus on stewardship, strategic oversight and supporting the long-term wellbeing of the School community.

A key area of focus has been the implementation of the School’s Strategic Plan 2025–2029. Developed through broad consultation with students, staff, families, alumni and Quakers, the Plan provides a clear roadmap for the years ahead, centred on wellbeing, learning, community, stewardship, diversity and child safety.

The Board has also received updates on the continued development of the Learning at Friends’ 24+ model. It has been encouraging to see the Middle School and Senior School communities continue to strengthen as students and staff further embed these changes. We remain attentive to feedback and focused on ensuring that these developments support positive learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students.

Friends’ commitment to living its Quaker values has also remained an important point of reflection. Recent decisions and conversations relating to peace-centred education have highlighted the value of respectful dialogue and careful discernment when navigating complex issues. The Board remains committed to governance that is thoughtful, transparent and guided by the School’s Purpose & Concerns.

The Board is also pleased to see continued progress in sustainability and climate action. We have been encouraged by the School’s work towards developing a pathway to carbon neutrality, reflecting both a practical commitment to environmental sustainability and the Quaker testimony of Earthcare. While this work will evolve over time, we see it as an important part of our responsibility to future generations and of ensuring that the School’s actions align with the values it seeks to model.

On behalf of the Board, I thank Principal Esther Hill, the Leadership Team, staff and volunteers for their dedication to the School and its students. I also thank our families and wider community for their ongoing support and engagement. We remain grateful for the opportunity to serve the School and support its continued growth.
