Sharing again some songs we've been learning in French...(you may or may not thank me for sharing!)

Everyone: Coco laye laye - a West African French song to share names

1-2-3: J'aime les fruits - a really silly song about fruits

4-5-6: Ediké diké cha la la - another West African French song, this one to get moving

Term 1 Art

The students appear to be as excited by Art this term as I am!

The year 1s to 6s have started off the year with a 5 week self portrait, based on the topic of self identity and the art work of Dean Russo,  a New York-based artist.  The students are using a range of media: 

• acryilic paint applied with sponges and paint brushes
• soft grey lead for transferring tracings
• Sharpie pens or Fineliners for outlining, creating depth and adding text
• soft chalk pastels for blending colour
• paint markers.

They have been making colour choices and mixing colours to use analogous colour schemes with contrasting colours, using fine motor skills to trace and draw, and practising cutting skills. 

In week 6, our Foundation students will have their first Art class for the year. Projects will give them an opportunity to explore colour, manipulate oil pastels and practise their cutting and pasting skills. The topic will be focussed on how we are all different from one another but together we make a community.

Throughout the rest of term 1, the 1/2/3 class will improve their drawing skills and the use of watercolours and tempura paints. The focus topic will be about how things change in their lives: how they spend their time, their toys, friends, pets, etc.  They will create 'wordless stories'. Their creative choices will take into consideration the elements and principles of design, of colour, shape and space.

For the remainder of term 1, the 4/5/6 class will improve their drawing skills and their use of  watercolours and tempura paints, exploring pop and street art. The topic they will focus on will be emotions and self-regulation strategies; "When I feel like this, I do this". They will also make creative choices based on the elements and principles of design, of colour, shape and space.

Art Club

Every Wednesday, we now have Art Club for any students who want to spend time during second recess in the art room being creative.
